There's your answer, We are getting older. Simple. The old "twenty years ago...." is fine and dandy but it simply is not meant to be. We live in a real world where we unfortunately do age and health problems take a priority over our pastimes (and expenses).

I would rather give that money to the NRA that fights for our right to keep firearms. But now that they just recently raised their prices they're too expensive now too.

I was a member, took range officer training and was certified to teach,..no notice to renew, just cancelled. Well I have other things to do with $50 donations.

I live in New Zealand which is more than a days travel by jet from the US of A but I was a member for some years , back in the 70's and 80's the only benefit was "Muzzle Blasts" but the cost of the mag made it a very expensive read and the regional and presidents reports were of little interest to me .. I did make several very rewarding contacts though wonderful people I miss them a whole lot now .. Roob

I understand everyone's primitive school of thought. That too, is the core of my focus. With that being said, the NMLRA is in the business of promoting muzzleloading and, unfortunately, that also requires funding. They are simply adapting and changing in order to maintain and possibly grow the sport. My home club, and Pennsylvania in general, has seen a significant decline in participation in the last 15 years, especially ones getting involved and actually helping. Keeping things exclusively primitive is fine, but we also need to accept the consequences that come with the ensuing decline that may result.

I am not a member anymore and for a long time in NMLRA is because they went in a direction I choose not too be a part of and the cost is just to much for me to afford. Do I pickup a copy once in while in the book store? Yes and still find it not to my liking which is how you gain or lose people in any group.

I'm all for any organization that helps forward any pastime or hobby. But I'm on a fixed income and just a medical situation or two and you learn to cut out the unnecessary things in life. And my budget just won't allow it at the present.

Are "cheap CVAs" really looked down upon by some of the purist shooters here or have I misread something in an old thread? I would think those cheap CVAs and other repros brought many many shooters into this hobby.

Well, not by me. I say have at it and have fun.

I have been a member of the NRA sense the mid 70's and will remain a member until I die. I feel that if the older members quit the NRA will go under like so many other organizations. That being said if we don't stand with the NRA it will surly fold up.

I was a member for 40 years. When inlines, sabot's, plastic bullet cups, substitute black powders made into compressed donut loads, started being looked into as acceptance into this original historical primitive magazine, I jumped out. I know that I don't mean much getting out to the NMLRA, but if ten thousand did it, they would get the picture.....awwww, everybody knows what I mean!, getting tired repeating this .......sonnyboy

Sounds like you loose either way, along with the other 10,000 (and the many more that benefit from the activities of the NMLRA) people that you spoke of.

Just keep going the way your going. When the bottom falls out, who will take the responsibility for the organization demise ? If the Thompson center, lyman, inexpensive modernized flintlocks, ultra modern scope mounted, hair triggered inlines want to be in NMLRA magazine, then let NMLRA magazine make a sub division separate magazine just for them. The kids shouldn't be swimming in the pools deep end!, get on your own side....sonny

Where did you go Johnhalf?
Field reps in my world reach out to the people in their areas, your the "new local field rep" you made a couple of posts on a thread, actually found local people interested in helping increase participation in the sport, then you disappear. As the local field rep, you represent the NMLRA, so far your acting just like the old field reps that turned me off of NMLRA to begin with.

How does supporting an organization that does zero in my area count as a loss? Shouldn't I benefit from my membership? If the "many more that benefit" want my support, then why don't the "many more" that benefit from my dues, get the organization to support those that pay and get nothing?
