I just pickup a Old CVA .32 rifle kit gun. Box was never opened.
After doing a inspection on all the parts, I found it complete.
I planing to use a Plum bluing on the barrel.

My question is, I want to stain it something different than the store bought wood stain.
Anybody know any good recipes for a wood stain?

I really like the LMF stains. They are very good to mix if the color you want is not available. I have used them on walnut, cherry, maple, birch and even leather and all have been very good. Colors of nut brown, walnut, cherry have all been favorites.

I'm not sure what color you want, but AIR the wood in the CVA kits doesn't take many stains very well.

Most of the original CVA guns (and their kits) are much too light for my liking so, I would recommend using either the LMF stains or Birchwood Casey Walnut.
Both are water or alcohol based stains so you can apply as many coats as you want and each coat will make the wood darker.
(You can only apply a few coats of an oil based stains before the wood is saturated with the oil and further attempts to darken the wood with more stain will result in doing nothing.)

Another brand of stain that's available at some of the woodworking stores is Master Solar-Lux.
It is a quality stain and comes in at least 8 different colors that I know of.

zonie :)
