Well for some reason my hands keep getting cold when out in the woods... So, decided to make a pair of wool mittens with a piece of rabbit skin from a harvest I took back in November.

Double thick wool, with the pelt sewn along the outside using waxed linen... Simple and very warm! I'll be adding a slit for my trigger finger to slip through, which I will be sewing a flap of wool over the slit that will be affixed by a horn or bone button. :hatsoff:

Glad to hear they pass your initial test! Can't say I am too jealous of the cold you have out your way though!

Nice!.....Can't wait to see what you make next. :hatsoff:

Well I'll unfortunately be shifting my focus to building more arrows. I've got a dozen douglas fir and also a dozen cedar shafts I've self knocked with walnut inserts and they are ready to be fletched/ points installed, so I'll be tackling that project.

Also I'll be completing a few traditional D bows I've been putting off... lol, one love to another! Sorry for getting :eek:ff

As long as the spine weight is sufficient for the draw weight most any straight grained wood will work.....Heck I made an arrow out of a pine 2x4 once. I had to taper the shaft considerably to achieve proper spine, but it worked great.

Absolutely is... All my hunting arrows are a spine of 45-50lb douglas fir. Very hard hitting and durable arrow shafting. PM me if you have any questions on sourcing and building arrows and what not.

Thank you, I'm aware of this and have already taken steps to prevent that before sewing the pelt on.

I've used rabbit pelts with good luck many of times after using my homemade waterproofing agent that's applied to the hide.

my mother (a Minnesotan - you'd think she would have known better) insisted on buying me a pair of mittens with rabbit fur lining. the fur matted the first time they got wet (note to self ... kids build snowmen, which is a wet activity) ...

luckily for me, they only lasted one winter ... what a disaster!

(you're right: I was not a 'happy child' ... that's OK - I grew to a 'not happy' adult)
