Would like a powder recommendation

FFFG is usually a bit cleaner, but some guns simply prefer FFG. I have one like that. I buy FFG just for that one gun and all the others get FFFG. The best way to find out is to work up your best load with both granulations and see which is the most accurate. If they're pretty close, I'd say stick with FFFG.

Anything up to 80grns in a .54cal is a target/plinking load as far as I'm concerned...with big game hunting loads running from 90-120grns.

As measured over a chronograph there there are significangt velocity step increases with each 10 grain incremental powder increase along the way.

So at least I have no idea what you mean when you say anything over 80grns in a .54cal is "wasted"...can you elaborate?
