Here in Iowa down in the southern counties they have what they call a late bonus season for antlerless only deer and they will let you use high powered rifles. They did this last year for the first time and it was pretty succesful. I have a friend who lives down there so I have a place to hunt and I'm going to use my Marlin 45-70 with 405 grain cast bullets. He said you could buy 2 tags so I'll have to take my muzzleloader with me also.

You don't need that 405 gr. slug for deer, sir. A 300 gr bullet is more than enough, and will shoot flatter, and kick less. Don't expect to recover either slug, unless you shoot a northbound deer in the south end, Maybe!

I have rethought my sight in range. Used to always shoot at all ranges and sight in at 100 yards but after looking close an an avg muzzle loader shot of 40 yards. I decided to rezero my .54s ,soon to be .58 and .62, dead on at 50 yards and I'll know exactly where each is at 75 yards should I have need for a little more. This should do me just fine for most shots. Anythin other gets a free pass. :v

Yea I know, it's just that I have a lot of cast bullets that I have cast over the years and after thinking about it I decided to use a 400 grain Lyman non gas checked bullet, it has more of a blunt nose than my 405 grain gas checked RCBS moulded bullet, and I used softer lead when I cast them.
