I have the opportunity to purchase a TC Renegade with a GM 45cal 1x32in barrel 1-60tw,whats your thoughts on this setup for a offhand target(for score) rifle?

SOUNDS LIKE IT'D BE A LITTLE HEAVY BUT I'M SURE IT'D HAVE MATCH WINNING ABBILITYS.THOSE ARE VERY GOOD BARRELS.DICK

I have an origional J.H. Rector that is very much like you are thinking of . Barel is 1.25 cross the flats. 56 cal and weighs about 14 lbs. Shoots like a dream and kicks a bit, only problem in my eyes is that its not a flint. Some physical conditioning is necessary though. like doing one hand curls with it to strengthen the left arm. Hated that when I was in the SeaBees, but do it now after open heart surgery. Very old Bob

that barrel is close to my barrel i have on my underhammer i use in off hand matches. mnie is 1 1/16 part roun part oct.32" long. .45 1in 56.
some say it is heavy i think it is just right and it hangs nice. my load is .440 .20 patch 45gr 3f. i can shoot that all day and feel beat up.

I have a 15/16" 32" in 40 cal one would think there wouldnt be much difference in the weight of the 1"x32 45 cal

I would not be concerned about the barrel, if it has been maintained. My concern would be if the Renegade stock fit me well & was comfortable for me to shoot. (they don't fit me well, nor do the T/C Hawkens) Also would want the set triggers on it if I got it.

i have a 15/16 34" .40 cal hoyt barrel i have used a lot on my layman gpr. like you said it does have close to the same weight and does make a real nice off hand rifle. my load with that one is .395 rb .20 patch 40 gr. 3f. both the .40 and the .45 loads shoot clean i dont have to wipe between shots.

set triggers are nice but they dont help me either way. but you have to have a stock that fits you.

tripleh:

I just finished a rifle, 40 caliber 15/16 x36 inch long barrel. It is a little heavy but it holds good for off-hand shooting. I also have a 45 caliber rifle with a 11/8inch x 32inch long Numrich gain twist barrel. It hold very good but is a little heavy for me as I am getting older, get tired to fast.

If you want to shot off-hand and do good, I think that you need a heavy barreled rifle.

I started with a T/C, but when I began shooting a lot of off hand matches, I learned that a T/C does okay from the bench for me and will do well in a deer stand, but it is not very good for off hand. I found that the stock needed more drop for me to shoot to my potential. I built a gun with more drop and which fit me better in the length of pull. I was far more successful because everything allowed me to use the gun correctly rather than my trying to work around the incorrect structure of a gun.

On the other hand, my friend Round Ball does quite well with T/Cs and seems to have no need of a custom gun, so it might work for you.
