I like to develop my load at 50y so I can better see which load is opening up on me, pick my tightest group, and then sight that in at 25-30 if it’s a squirrel gun. Great comments about shooting at 75 as well so you know your impact points at unexpected distances.
 
I do load development at 50m and sight in at 35m.

The .40 is a good round. An overlooked benny is it can use a 3/8” rammer, which is close to bore size so well supported and stronger than the small 5/16 and 1/4 rods on smaller calibers.
