So when did this start?!?
I just checked my local Scheels and they are Limiting sales of All percussion caps:
1 tin per customer!

No matter if it's CCI 100 count tin or 250 count Graf caps - ONE TIN LIMIT!
I tried to put two in my cart and message popped up:
"Your Max Limit Has Been Reached"

No 'cases' available.

I checked other unmentionables and No Limit at all...

It's been a while as I have kept my store full...just in case.
But we were planning a trip to get my wife an excercise mat so I thought I might grab a few tins too, last time I bought 6 tins.

I wonder if I make a day out of it;
Buy one tin, go to lunch, come back and buy a tin, go to dinner, go back and get another...??

One tin don't last long with revolvers, only two or threes days target shooting with rifle.

But Get All The 'Assault' Ammo You Want!!

I like commercial caps when I can find them, but the tap o cap and "prime-all" has been a lifesaver during the shortage.

Go there and buy one with cash. Take it to the car. Go back in and buy another and pay with cash.

That is kinda what I was thinking, but I like my Points, 3pt per dollar spent with the Scheels card and I only need four more coupons to get an unmentionable I want.

I do wonder why all of a sudden the limit; are they combating Scalpers or is there something coming down the pipe - another shortage maybe??

I told the wife I'm gonna write Santa for one of those 'Make your own' kits...just have to choose which one.

BUT 'ONE TIN PER CUSTOMER' now Come On, Jack, that just ain't right!!!!!

Yes it is the scalpers. They literally come in and grab everything up to resell. So I do not begrudge the store for limiting the numbers you can buy.

I remember during the ammo shortages where I would show up at 6 am and I was like number five in line. Then at almost 9:00am when the store opens suddenly all of the family friends and relatives storm the line and now I am like number forty back in the line. Everyone would buy the maximum allowed and the shelves would be empty by the time I got my turn.

Here in IN muzzleloading season starts next weekend. Not sure what other states are like, I'd be happy to know shops are doing what they can to help more people have an opportunity (even if they shouldn't have waited this long).

I do not fault stores and shops for limiting cap purchases. They are simply doing what they can to at least keep some folks going for a little while. Considering we traditional ML fans are such a tiny fraction of sales to the actual ordinance manufactures of actual black powder and caps, I find it absolutely despicable for anyone to be a scalper. My guess is, most of the scalpers are not even into the trad thing other than to profit. They do not care if some folks cannot shoot their ML due to not finding any caps.

So, what is our options?

Either do a large purchase from some of the online dealers, even if it means having to pay HAZ-MAT. There are occasionally some deals pop up like in a post above where its free HAZ-MAT. Yes its a big hit on the wallet, but at least you can and should stock up on powder and caps anyway. We are living in very scary times in many aspects. Best be stocked up on anything you might think you need now.

Second choice is learn to make your own caps. There's plenty of information out there on this. Yes, it takes some trial and error and some time. But heck, once you get it down pat, you got it and really shouldn't be all that concerned about caps.

We are not allowed to discuss it here but I will state this. Some people make their own BP as well. That's as far as I will take this one.

I am 1000% in favor of rationing. I know of shooters that are Big time hoarders. They care nothing about fellow shooters, just about themselves. It’s a behavior trait that also manifests itself in other ways in their lives. Frankly they show total disrespect. The shortage we see has been created BY THEM. They strip the supply chain.

There's a shop out this way that will clean out Walmart and resell them for 4x the amount. I don't blame a shop for limiting inventory in hunting season.
I see that at the gun shows. Same caps that Wally World sells and they have them on their tables for $35.00 a tin. These are also the same guys buying the boxes of .410's and selling them for $35 a box. I haven't found any .410's in more than a year. I know there is a walmart associate that when certain items come in like the .410's, he calls his friends and they get the items before anyone else can. He told me he does that.

Agree. Been ordering powder by the case for 25 years since it became impossible to find in Houston. Finally broke down and ordered 1K caps at a disgruntling price, but I like to shoot my ROA's. Glad I shoot flintlocks more and more though. A couple hundred pounds of soft lead and I will be set for a while.

The shortage has been created by those who cannot see far enough ahead to stock up on stuff. They panic buy, thus creating the flippers who take advantage of other’s stupidity.

All good points, especially about hunting season.
But what comes to my mind is; does a large box store like Scheels really know or care about BP hunters to choose to limit them in order for hunters to hunt rather then Scalpers get them....either way Scheels gets their money and caps have not been on their shelves full time for Years now.
Or, with the sparse supply have they caught wind of and up coming 'drought' again and simply trying to spread them out amoung their customers?

Unmentionables are still also Scalped at gun shows today; I have seen boxes of (50 count) of 44mag going for $65-$85 at gun shows but only $40-$55 at the store IF you can find them....they are not being rationed. And the same even for more common calibers readily found.
Only the Percussion caps are being rationed, and I have not seen Scheels do this before...?

As for the one comment on here that I ignore; not "whining" at all, I have a good supply, just wondering and if this Limit 1 Per Customer is a sign of something coming...

It's all part of the conspiracy....

I can see that for local stores, but when I approach Scalpers at gun shows and point out what I pay online per pound or tin they fire back "No you can't! You have to pay shipping and hazmat and it will cost you what I am charging!!"
Try to tell them that I buy it by the case and YES the price per is what I just had delivered.
Again they fire back at me "NO ONE BUYS THAT MUCH!!" as if to call me a liar.

By some of the comments I have gotten from a California Scalper who frequently Nevada shows, an Oregon Scalper also encounter here And one in Idaho (just 6 hours from Buffalo Arms) I don't think any of these guys are ordering online enough to cause any nation wide shortage, they are just cleaning the shelves of local stores.
