    RB size for a 69 Cal. Smoothbore

    I have heard this also about a bare ball with a thin top card, but being a newbie at smoothbores and leery of putting wads ahead of a single projectile I have not tried it. Any other comments or contributions on "bare balls" - on topic of course :nono: :grin: - would be appreciated!

    Looking through a bunch of current catalogs and web sites seems to indicate that a lot of earlier French muskets were .69 caliber (14 gauge). I've just picked up a modern-made 14 gauge fowler to try after having an original 14 gauge percussion double rifle for a while. Round balls --> bigger...

    Another English Fowler

    Thanks! I feel pretty fortunate with this one. Supplies arrived yesterday so I can replace the wooden 'flint' used for lock testing with the real article and give it a try Saturday. The wood to metal fit is very good, it fits me well and balances sweetly. Time to smoke 'em!

    I remember years ago while obsessively working up smokeless loads for my latest scope mounted maxi blaster seeing a few old coots at the far end of the range dinking around with nasty old smokepoles, hardly getting any shooting done it seemed at the time. Now I am one! I've been dinking around...
