    Filling the base?

Probably the first thing I would try is an OP wad.

    Thompson Center questions

Just measure the twist rate and see what your rifle is. There are plenty of YouTube videos out there and it only takes a few minutes. Work up a powder charge starting at 60g or so. Shoot a group. Increase 5g and shoot another group. Swab between shots and don’t exceed the manual numbers. your...

$1,000 budget (set on stone): What should I recommend?

For sure. I’m in no hurry. I will keep an eye on the classifieds but am leaning towards a Kibler kit. It’s going to be a big bore though. .54/.56 probably. Thanks to alll the members thst have posted and shared their knowledge and experienc. Bob

.50 cal Lyman Great Plains Bullet Zero

X2 an OP wad tightened my .50 TC Maxiball groups as well. Bob

$1,000 budget (set on stone): What should I recommend?

I’m in the same place. I have been thinking about making the jump from percussion to flintlock. I also want to avoid the cheap mass produced imports and want something with a decent lock, properly heat treated and tuned, to get started with. I want to enjoy the rifle and not be fighting with the...

    TC New Englander puzzle

Get the scraper. It will help. Another trick to try next time it happens is to pull the nipple and trickle a little powder into the bolster. Re-insert the nipple and it should fire. It will work if you dry ball as well. Bob

    Sidelocks and pellets

I have one with a wooden stock. It is a great shooter that I can take into the woods and not worry if it gets wet or dinged. My best load is 85g of Goex ffg, a 0.18 patch, and a .490 PRB.It also shoots a TC Maxi-Ball over a OP wad using the same powder charge shoots equally as well. I am using...

Mixed day at the range with the new CVA 54

If you can double patch a ball and get it rammed home without using a framing hammer I think you need a thicker patch. Bob

    why does flyers happend

I went to the range yesterday and I was shooting a known good load that will make one ragged hole at thirty yards. I moved the target to 50 yards and I was all over the paper (and off the paper LOL) with the same exact load. It was just one of those days where nothing would come together. I...

    270g TC MaxiBall

Thank you for giving me another option to try. I have plenty of time to work up some loads before the season. Bob

    270g TC MaxiBall

Same here. It s a pattern not a grouping. :rotf: I agree; dead is dead and it will certainly do the job. I would like to stay around 270g to flatten the trajectory. Both the buffalo bullet and the Maxiball shot a ragged hole at 30 yards so they are the main contenders as I increase the...

    270g TC MaxiBall

Anyone know who carries them??? I can't seem to find them; I am only finding the 370g and the 320g. I am in the process of working up a load for my TC WMC in .50. The two most promising ML bullets thus far are the 270g Buffalo Ballet and a 370g TC Maxiball and I sure don't need a 370g Maxiball...

Real world accuracy from a CVA

WOW I am surprised. My Mountain Stalker has pretty deep rifling and I found that the thicker patch grabs the rifling better and that combination does very well in mine. If you have deep rifling it might be worthwhile to try a smaller ball and a thicker patch. I often have trouble finding my...

    Best muzzleloading bullet WMC .50

Ron, I read your posts on paper patching the C-501-440-RF with great interest. I would prefer not to have to go that route as I am not set up for casting and sizing my own bullets. I will if I have to and I am sure I would enjoy it but I want to try some factory ML bullets first. What is the...

    Best muzzleloading bullet WMC .50

What have you found to be the best muzzle loading bullet for the TC White Mountain Carbine? The rifle will be used for deer hunting and has a 1:38 twist (measured). I need to work up some loads for this fall. Thanks, Bob

Real world accuracy from a CVA

You will likely need a thicker patch. My mountain stalker shot best with a 0.020 patch. Bob

Real world accuracy from a CVA

The best load for my CVA Mountain Stalker is, a .490 caliber swagged Hornady round ball, a .020" premade and lubed TC patch over 85 grains of Goex FFg and a standard CCI #11 percussion cap. A TC Maxiball (370g) and a .510 over powder wad over the same powder charge will clover leaf at 40 yards...

    Hunting with your muzzleloader

Lots of good advice above. Here are some other things that may help: Remove the nipple and run a pipe cleaner through the flash channel to remove any crude that has built up. You can also try holding the rifle with the bolster (where the nipple is) toward the ground and tapping the opposite...

    cracked stock on renegade

The max charge I have found in the published load data is 110g FFg under a 270g Maxi. I didn't believe believe him and that is why I had him double check. He didn't say anything about being in "transition" but he was just parroting what the computer in front of him had on the screen. Bob
