    cracked stock on renegade

I am sorry to hear about the crack in the stock. You will likely have to take care of it yourself. I spoke to TC a few weeks ago regarding a TC WMC that I picked up second hand with a very rough barrel. I was looking to see if they had a manual and I inquired about purchasing a replacement...

    First Time Out

You are off to a good start. Working up a load is a lot of fun. When you take the time to work up a load those Mountain Stalkers can be great shooters. I know that mine shoots well. The other nice thing is that they are inexpensive. Last December I hunted all day in a steady rain/freezing rain...

What load should I start with?

Mine shoots very well with a .490 ball, .020 patch and 85g of Goex. It also shoots a 370g Maxiball well using an over powder wad and the same 85g of Goex. The only time I ever had ignition problems is with 777. Enjoy, Bob

    TC WMC Load Suggestions

I just picked up a new (to me) percussion TC White Mountain Carbine in .50. The barrel is a little rough but the price was right($75). Just about everyone up here has moved on to those new-fangled things that some call muzzloaders and few want to hunt with the side locks these days. My...

Need Help Finding A Specific Set of Williams Sights

I have them on my CVA and it is also a short rear sight compared to the long rear sight in your picture. FWIW the fiber optic thread in the rear sight has been removed. The front sight is also modified or not an original Williams sight. But you probably already know that. The reason that I am...

    CVA Mtn. Stalker .50

It is the same as mine. 1:48 twist. Mine shoots very well with an 85g of Goex ffg, .018 TC pre-lubed patch, and PRB. The same amount of powder with a bore button and Maxi-ball also shoots well. It is a good shooter if you take the time to work up a load and it is a great field gun as it is...

Lost a part for my gun.

I lost a barrel wedge last month while I was hunting and I go some great advice. Here is a link to the thread: Link Bob

    Conical Range??

You might try putting a bore button between the powder and the maxiball. I did that on my .50 (1:48 twist)and it tightened up my groups. Bob

What do you really need to do to keep the powder dry in the rain?

I tape all my barrels to keep any debris out of the barrel. I fell once in the snow and had a few inches of snow in the barrel of my shotgun. I have been taping them ever since. I don't have a problem if I don't push it down with the hammer but I have found that pushing it down with the hammer...

What do you really need to do to keep the powder dry in the rain?

I never really worried about keeping my powder dry in the rain as I am pretty much a fair weather hunter but this season I missed a lot of our muzzleloader season due to my wife being sick (nothing serious thankfully) so I went out on the last day of the season which was a miserable day that...

    Lost barrel wedge question

I actually have them in my ruck; just didn't think of using them. I use them to attach the tag to one of the legs. Bob

    My budy, the cheapskate

I always change my cap from day to day or from hunt to hunt if I am hunting somewhere else for an afternoon hunt. Caps are cheap. My gun stays loaded for the season with the barrel taped, unless I get caught in a storm. It always goes boom at the end of the season. During the off season all of...

    Lost barrel wedge question

What a great idea. Thank You for sharing it. I will have to do that after the season. Bob

    Lost barrel wedge question

I will say that I got great service from Deer Creek. My replacement wedges showed up today and it only took a couple of business days. Thank You Deer Creek and the members here for your posts. I hadn't considered stock shape. Thanks for the interesting post Labonte. Bob

    Lost barrel wedge question

That is what I did for the rest of my hunt except I used a piece of mountain laurel as it was handy. I figure that will hold it until the replacement wedges come in. Thanks to all for the responses. I was curious as it could have easily happened. Thanks, Bob

    Lost barrel wedge question

I have a half stock CVA that I use for hunting. Yesterday I was sitting down in my stand and after hunting 3 or 4 hours I happened to notice that my barrel wedge was MIA. I noticed that it was loose on the previous hunt but I forgot to "adjust" it. What would have happened if I had fired it...

    Maxi question

Same here. I have found that a felt wad or "bore button" between the powder charge and the Maxie will improve accuracy. Bob

    CVA Concerns

I have a CVA Mountain Stalker in .50. It is a good shooter and I have absolutely no concerns in shooting it. My experiences are identical to what Buford posted. The trigger is on the heavy side but it is a field rifle not a target rifle for me. I have probably read the article(s) you are...

    50 cal hunting load questions

I have no experience with elk but a felt button between the powder charge and the maxiball or conical bullet will often shrink your groups considerably. Bob

    First time black powder user

In Massachusetts a permit is required to purchase and posess Caps, BP, and the projectiles as they are considered ammunition. Hell, even the possession of the blank casings from the 21 gun salute of a military funeral are technically illegal to posess without a permit; and yes people have been...
