    Leman Fullstock Rifle

I was just wondering what you all thought on this kit? It might be awhile, but I'm considering a rifle kit like this in a .54 caliber barrel to save up for. The green mountain barrel is good, the L&R Leman Percussion lock is supposedly good, and the period they were made is about right for...

    Hunting Yardage?

Custom, I have been considering the EXACT same load with 777 for my 28" hawken and From what I have heard is that within 50 yards, out of a .54 with a PRB 90 grains should kill anything in the lower 48 (excluding those Ole Grizzlies walking around up north) But there is a post...

    First time casting

I Totally missed Pauls post! GREAT tips paul thank you very much. I am going to have to try the dipping the mold in the molten lead to heat it up. I was just using the burner on the stove to heat it up today but I have a feeling that the molten lead will work better because I wont have to move...

    First time casting

Alright the sprue lead cooled off very quickly so im going to try to heat it up a bit more. And I ended up in my garage with the stove, with a fan behind me to blow the fumes outside. Thank you for your help, this should make my next session a LOT better in terms of the quality of my balls.

    First time casting

Today was the first time I cast some RB's with a bag mold that I bought and some lead from different caliber balls. I cast 37 FULL balls out of around 50 or 60 attempts I tried my hardest to keep the casting end of the mold hot and I tried to keep the lead at a stable temperature off of a...

    Why the hatred for CVA?

Thank you ALL for the very helpful information. I do love my CVA and although I have not yet shot it and had a chance to get it sighted In I do love that rifle over all of my centerfires and my little .32 simply because I made it. I love how Walks Alone said "I was a hunter first, second and...

    Why the hatred for CVA?

Its not that anybody hates ME, its just that I've read alot of people saying that they dont think that CVA's are a worthwhile gun

    Why the hatred for CVA?

So I know that many of you do not like CVA rifles at all and I have to wonder why? Granted their barrels are made in spain, but i would have to think that for the most part a gunsmith in the 18th century wouldnt be able to produce as fine of a barrel as a manufacturer in the 21st century PURELY...

    Better than Bore Butter?

A little non-traditional here, i've been buying patches from Sportsmens warehouse with Wonderlube-2000 already applied, but since the "bug" is REALLY hitting me hard (Made a rifle and building two powder horns as we speak) Where can you get this Moose snot? and I hear you guys use pillow...

    FIRST RIFLE!!

Upon Completing this rifle, I have several questions that would be very helpful to be answered. 1.) The stock still has that grainy wood feel to it, and what kind of finish is there that would make it "waterproof" or slick like a normally done rifle? 2.) (Im going with you guys!) Where can I...

    FIRST RIFLE!!

I just finished my very first rifle build that was a 1985 CVA Hawken rifle kit and if I dont say so Myself I could not be more proud of it. I Browned the barrel and stained the stock using Birchwood casey products and She sure is a 'beaut! It came with .54 and a .50 barrels one of each and i...

    What would YOU do?

I got my first buck mounted, First Buck But Then realized its not all about trophy size, so for the most part I now try to stick with Does and Cows First cow but I've thrown my hand in on the Bull elk draw a few times

    Cow Horn or Buffalo Horn?

In my "adventures" of making more and more things for myself and realizing that a powder Horn is more realistic, of those of you that make powder horns which do you prefer as a workable object. Track of the Wolf sells both and I was thinking a Plain black buffalo horn would go well with my grey...

    aging a belt axe

I've never tried an Axehead before, but what "ages" metal pretty good is if you rub some Dark Mustard on it. (doesnt work on stainless steel) and for the handle, rubbing the finish off with a rougher 100 grit type sandpaper then making a few "used gashes" in it with your knife then stain it and...
