    Dutch Schoultz and Blackpowder Accuracy

Mr. Shoultzs' system deffinately does work, and works very well. My thanks to you Dutch...for sharing the wisdom with us all. I promote your system every chance I get. God speed and many blessings to you Sir!

    puzzling loading problem

Another Dutch disciple here....and I agree with Necchi... The smaller diameter ball with the same patch gave a reduced diameter, which lead to an increase in the amount of fouling. Unless you compensate with more wiping solution, you will not be getting as much of that fouling out and it will...

Short Started / Ringed / Bulged Barrels

My barrel ring was right behind the short started ball...the length of my short starter from the end of the barrel...6" maybe? I definately can happen.

    Offhand Target Rifle?

Keep in mind also, that you have only tried one load so far...a little heavier charge of powder just might shrink those groups down to one ragged hole. I have always found that 70 gr. of 3F does really well in the .45 T/C Hawken rifles, combined with a fairly snug patch.

Short Started / Ringed / Bulged Barrels

I agree whole heartedly with this...and I speak from experience. A few years ago, I bought a used .45 t/C Hawken. I ALWAYS run a tight oiled patch down the bore of any muzzleloader I buy used, and this one proved to be fine. My very first range session with this rifle and I was getting 2"...

Thanks for all the info fellas. Im not planning on attempting the charcoal blueing...was just curious about why it didnt effect the steel in a negative way where strength is concerned. Now I know...

    Overheating a barrel?

Just found the info...its called charcoal blueing. Still dont understand how the heat dont affect the strength of the barrel steel, looks like the barrel would blow up when you shoot it to me? Anyone know more about why this dont weaken the barrel?

    Overheating a barrel?

Ok I know this is gonna sound crazy but I know I read this somewhere before...Has anyone ever heard of a browning/blueing process that involves laying the barrel of a muzzleloader in a bed of coals until its glows a dull red? Ive been doing a search on this but cant find anything about it. I...

    TC Hawken with 209 conversion

I didnt even know such a critter existed. Never had ignition problems as long as the rifle is maintained properly.

    Help with cleaning between rounds

Plain old Windex in a small spray bottle, 2-3 spritz on a cleaning patch then run the patch down and pull it out one time. I do this between shots for bench work. My wife buys those little body spray bottles at Wally world for $1 each, they are perfect size for a range box. Just fill one or two...

    Dont ya just hate when....

Benched...Im still in the load development stage with this rifle...tweakin the lube amount and seeing what works best. I have the patching and powder charge pegged. Actually this is the only rifle Ive personally ever shot that shoots two different powder charges identically as far as accuracy...

    Dont ya just hate when....

    Dont ya just hate when....

You got a really nice group goin...then ya go and blow it with a couple of well placed fliers? :shake: :barf: First three shots right into center and next two pulled them both off to the right, knew as soon as I touched it off on both shots that I had pulled them. :headslap: .50 T/C...

Good And Bad News Regarding My Groups

Kaintuckkee...thank ye kindly sir. Groups like that are very possible with Dutch Schoultz's 'Dry Lube' system. As I stated earlier I know theres other members here who follow the system as well. Good info worth its weight in gold in my opinion.

Good And Bad News Regarding My Groups

Your in the right frame of mind Josh, try to work through what was different from your first groups to the ones your shooting now... Powder type/granulation. Patch thickness. Patch lube, using different/more/less. Bore condition. (were you wiping the bore between shots? if so, how...
