    Gun values

One of my other hobbies is vintage military wristwatches. There is not a single price guide out there that is accurate, and prices of some watches fluctuate quickly. The only way to keep close tabs on values is to become extremely knowledgable about variations and fakes, and to keep a close...

when can i get a bargon?

Just speculation on my part, since I haven't been in this hobby very long, but I don't think manufacturers of traditional style muzzleloaders come out with new models all that often. How long has T/C been making a Hawken copy, maybe 30 years? I don't know. The thing to do is decide what you...

    T/C Warranty

You're right on the money there. I don't have a T/C, but with all these stories about their service/warranty, I sure am thinking about one for my next BP purchase. I can't be the only one, either.

    Good beginers muzzleloader?

That's what I did a few weeks ago, and was offered a very nice left-hand Lyman GPR, used, for less than 50% of new MSRP. I took the fellow up on his offer. I haven't shot it, yet. My only complaint so far is the weight, and the reach may be a touch long for me. If I buy another rifle, which...

    Period [sort of] cleaning kits

Hmm, I prefer Knob Creek myself, but I certainly wouldn't think twice about pouring Maker's Mark down the barrel!

50 cal Lyman GPR target loads

Dang, I'm jealous. I wanted to go shoot my new 50 cal. left-hand GPR today, too, but I couldn't.

    Good info there. Thanks!

    Ramrods - Wood vs Fiberglass

Ah, yes, they have what I need. Thank you.

    Ramrods - Wood vs Fiberglass

Where would one find a brass ramrod? The only ones I've found are those ones with a swiveling T handle.

    Left eye dominant

That's true, but you *will* get burned every now and then! I got burned a few times shooting cartridge autoloading rifles as a kid. The other day was my first muzzleloading experience, with a right-hand rifle. I wore long sleeves, and... you guessed it, my right sleeve got a couple of burns...

    This is all new...

Thank you, sir. The Lyman was more out of necessity, than out of choice, as I really needed a left-hand percussion rifle. When I posted a WTB on the classifieds, a used Lyman GPR was, understandably, the first rifle that was offered to me. Of course, I did some research before I agreed to...

    Definition of *Traditional*?

I apologize in advance for the following non-answer to your interesting question. Since I've only been into muzzleloading for a few weeks, I won't offer an opinion directly on your question, but I will tell you what attracted me to muzzleloading. It's a combination of several things, really...

    This is all new...

I've been out of shooting for years... I think the last time I shot a firearm was when I was too young to actually purchase one. Bottom line, I miss it, and I've been thinking of ways to get back into shooting for several years now. I've been fascinated by bp/muzzleloaders for a long time, and...

    Shipping a muzzleloader? Illinois resident...

I really don't want to make a political debate over this, but I agree that it would be best if Illinois followed federal law on this. In the absence of that, however, lawmakers and law enforcement should at least be clear on what the law is, and not be vague or inconsistent. A straight answer...

    Shipping a muzzleloader? Illinois resident...

Thanks for the link. Believe me, I've searched all the statutes and info I could find online. The only thing I could find, really, is that I must have a FOID card (which I do) to legally own/possess a muzzleloading firearm, and I found information on what constitutes an unloaded muzzleloading...

    Shipping a muzzleloader? Illinois resident...

Well, Lisa Madigan... nevermind. I think the lady I spoke with at the ISP seemed to give me a pretty direct answer- there is no problem having it shipped, but I need to have a FOID card, and if it's a transfer subject to the paragraphs on the back of the FOID card, I need to follow those rules...

    Shipping a muzzleloader? Illinois resident...

Thanks! I actually just got off the phone with the ISP Firearms Services Bureau, and the representative basically told me the same thing. She recommended following the instructions on transfer recordkeeping on the back of the FOID card. Which, is no problem for me.

    Shipping a muzzleloader? Illinois resident...

Alright, alright. No need to preach to me, most of my family is in Texas and surrounding. If I was there, I wouldn't have posted my query.

    Shipping a muzzleloader? Illinois resident...

Edit: I hope I posted this in the correct forum! If not, my apologies. I've been lurking here only a short while, but I've been thinking about trying my hand at muzzleloading for several years. I've decided to take the plunge, but I have questions about the legalities of having a muzzleloader...
