    New Traditions barrel question.

Ah gotcha. now I get to wonder about the inconsistencies of the tightness of a patch, from muzzle to breech in my gun.... :( :hmm: it gets loose then tight then loose... It might have something to do with the consistency of pressure I apply to the ro though(hopeful) Gary

Congrats! its a good gun. Of course, I'm a bit biased, as I got mine last christmas. :winking: have fun putting it together, I hope you do better with the butt plate than I did, :cursing: Mine is acurate at 65 yards, with the rear sight as far back as it will go, .490 PRB over 60 gr.(FFG)...

    hair dryer for my muzzleloader

I started useing the hair dryer the first time I cleaned with watter, I figure its worth it to get that barrel pretty hot, to make sure its dry. I've been going to get a regular heat gun, it would be hotter and quicker. :v Gary

    Dead clean.....then.....funny brown...

Well, your probably better at swabbing it out of the bore before the first shot than most people are. I have not had the residue problem much, I just don't like useing chemicals, or overly processed natural items. I figure it is generaly more healthy to not have such things get on me either...

    Dead clean.....then.....funny brown...

Just to let you know how it worked out; I ran a dry patch last night; Clean! I re oiled with castor oil. Will probably check it in another 4 or 5 days if I don't get out to shoot this weekend.    Gary

    leatherman hunter possibles bag

I'm gonna butt in here, I think whats getting missed here, is that they did exist as a all pupose bag, the purpose depending on the person or time period. At the original time it could have been called a hunting bag/pouch, haversack, or even a sh** bag. "possibles bag" is a modern term for the...

Blowing down barrel after each shot

(I've replied to this 2 times in two days and it keeps disipearing :cursing: ) Yes, but I carry a small purifier bottle for the water. no mistress. morals wouldn't stand it. no wife yet. with a hobby like this, she'd have to be crazy? :rotf: to be completely honest I should have said that I...

    Dead clean.....then.....funny brown...

I just don't trust the wd40 by itself, I've had it trap moisture and corode/rust things on engines. although it has only happened a few times, it still happened. I wanted to run a patch to see if it rusted again today, but I was too scared! :haha: Gotta do it though.... About the...

    showing off. warncliffe woodscraft knife

Well, I believe that one of the original variations had a bit more curve at the point,(sometimes called a sheapsfoot) and there was virualy no sharp point to it. You couldn't stab anything with it, one of the versions I've heard is that it was a sailors knife, if dropped, or it you fell/tripped...

Thanks guys! I've always liked the warnie shape, they always seem to be razor sharp! To get compliments like that from someone who makes great knives.. Gary

    Dead clean.....then.....funny brown...

Errr... well the last thing was actualy 4 dry patches after the WD40 and then a couple with lots of castor oil. I've been running a wet patch (sagebrush cleaner) and 2 dry patches before I make the first shot. I might just use the alchohol though.... I just don't trust to leave just the WD40...

    Dead clean.....then.....funny brown...

Today, I scrubber the rust out(more fouling too), with hot soapy water. Ran the brush a lot. Rinsed in hot clean water. Patch dried, heated the barrel HOT(too hot fore bare hands) with a heat gun while I was drying. Swabbed it out with a generous amount of WD40 :v , heated and dried it again...

Blowing down barrel after each shot

at the risk of starting a debate about loading from the powder horn.... :blah: I do it. for the theory of blowing out the embers, becaus I load powder directly from the horn, I don't want to have a flash and blow my hand off. Gary

    showing off. warncliffe woodscraft knife

Hey all, just thought I would pop in and show my latest knife,I finished it up last night.3-1/4" convex warncliffe blade,7-1/2" overall. the steel is 1095 high carbon. Wish I knew what the wood is.... :hmm: I figure it for carving/whittling/woodscraft/bushcraft type work. Would probably do...

Well, there aren't any gun shows here. no knife shows either :cursing: . What they do call a gun show is all the dealers in the area getting together for a sale.Nothing is more than 10 to 15 years old. Usualy in perfect condition and over priced. :shake: I won't use the petro products out of...
