    GPR .54 Flinter

I put an RPL lock on my GPR & I am very happy with it. It has a bigger frizen, & of coarse holds a bigger flint, which means alot more sparks are created. I hogged the original flash hole out to 5/64". It's also a good looking lock, and IMHO, is a very well built unit. I don't have the mis-fires...

    M1 Thumb - Flintlock style

I have always worried about this happening to me. It makes me cringe just to read about it ! Hope your healing goes fast!

    RPL lock

I finished fitting an RPL lock in my GPR flinter yesterday. It took a little inletting, but for the most part, the project went quite smooth. I was concerned with the vent hole position, it was at the right height, but the hole center was back about an 1/8 of an inch from the center of the pan...

    Crow Killer

Alot of the story came down from a guy by the name of Del Gue, Del was ol' L-E's trappin partner on & off for many years. The way Del made it out, was that he had witnessed it at different times, & he always begged L-E not to do it 'cause it made him gag! Like they say, that guy was sumthin'! :haha:

    Crow Killer

I just finished reading "Crow Killer, The Saga of Liver Eating Johnson", written by Raymond Thorp & Robert Bunker. I've read alot of books about the early pioneers of the west, both fiction & non-fiction, & in my opinion, I enjoyed this one right up there with the best of them. I've heard the...

    Another cap question......

Thanks for the info. It's off to my favorite gun store for some # 10's. Thanks again! :master:

    Another cap question......

I have always been under the impression that the difference between a #10 & a #11 cap was the amount of energy they produced. Is there supposed to be a difference in dimensions between the two? I have always used # 11 caps on all my stuff, but sometimes found them too large on some nipples...

Did "they" clean with hot water 'way back when' ?

I might just as well try the 98.6 trick, I usually end up having to do that when I'm cleaning my rifle anyway.

    Barrel twist question

I was admiring the Early American Jaeger rifle in the Dixie catalog this evening,& I kinda' like that style. But it says in the specs., that it has a 1-24" twist barrel. From my experience, that seems to be pretty quick twist for patched round ball doesn't it ? ::

    Wheel weights

I found an old rock tumbler type of thing that I use for cleaning ww's. I throw in a couple handfulls of weights, then top it off with some sand-blast sand, run it for about an hour, & they come out real nice. :m2c:

    Blue lead?

I debated with myself for quite awhile before I wrote that! That was at a weak moment in my life, before I found m-l's. :haha:

    Blue lead?

I melted down a bunch of wheel weights one time for use in some of my center fire wheel guns. I added some tin to increase the hardness of the lead, and I noticed that batch turned almost purple when I poured the ingots. Was it the tin ? I'm not sure. :hmm:

Any of you folks use Conicals in yer GPR?

I have found that you can shoot just about anything out of the slow twist barrel. BUT, I never had any luck shooting patched round ball out of my .50 / 1:32, it just does not work for me. That's what put me on the trail looking for the slow twist barrel. With the extra barrel, I can cast and...

Any of you folks use Conicals in yer GPR?

Hey Spot Shooter, When I bought my 1st GPR, it was a qiuck twist (hunter) .50 caliber, it shoots conicals better than I expected. It's what I use for deer hunting, & not that it's a big deal, but for quick reloading you don't have to deal with a patch. Conicals being heavier than a ball of...

    bullet mold

Has anyone ever seen a "ball-et" bullet mold, or know if one is even available? I would like to find one in .54 if possible.
