    posible bullet problem

I recently tried the Hornady PA conical bullet, 50cal in my rifle 1:66 twist. They are prelubed 240 grain bullets, require no patching, "designed for slow twist barrels". Hornady recommended 100 grains powder to start with. I wasn't that daring so I tried 90 grains (what my current PRB...

    Rain & accuracy

This may be a dumb question but, you said you shot 2 inch groups from a rest. When you were shooting from your porch at 40 steps, were you also shooting from a rest or off hand?

Another state has done it right...Minn:

Unfortunately, ML season here is ANY ML. A primitive only season would be great. Bull

    How fast does it go?

I know there are a lot of other variables to consider, but how fast (fps) is my projectile going? I am shooting a 0.490 RB, 0.018 pre-lubed PT, over 90 grains GOEX. I am shooting a 50 cal Traditions Shenandoah rifle (original barrel) 1:66 tiwst. Thanks for the help. Bull

What would caplock shooters want the most?

How does one make a leather capper or where can I get one? Thanks Bull

    Are all RB created equal?

I've shot a about 300 speer and was happy with the groups. I made one change, to hornady balls and was extremely happy, the groups seemed to tighten just a bit more, very happy. I have not miked or weighed but they work better in my gun. Bull

Anyone have a brass ramrod from RMCsports? I was thinking about ordering one to use for hunting and was wondering what anybody thought. Thanks

    Over the counter Western tags.?

I don't know for sure in Wyoming, but in MT you can buy over the counter "surplus" tags for Antelope and Whitetails, they are limited to Doe tags however. I have been doing this for the last few years, I draw a Muley tag and then go hunting, if it is over early I will buy some surplus tags...

    MN Muzzle Season info

I "hunted" last year's ML season for a day. As far as going wherever you want to hunt and either gendered animal, there is definately no advantage to ML hunting in MN, in fact it is more difficult hunting after firearms season. Is it legal to hunt firearms season with a ML, if you stayed...

    Dead clean.....then.....funny brown...

Update, I checked the container that my cleaning patches (EZ-Lube Cleaning patches by Traditions) come in. It advertises that the patches remove, of many other uses, petroleum based oils. For the record, Rem-oil advertises on its container as containing petroleum distillates. Bull

    Dead clean.....then.....funny brown...

That's what I am wondering, if my "process" of getting that out is "successful". I don't know if it is coming out or not, all I can say is that I have not noticed any additional build-up, fouling or difficulty loading. My belief was the cleaning patches were capable of cleaning BP residue...

    Dead clean.....then.....funny brown...

I use Rem Oil as my rust preventative at the end of my cleaning process and have been happy with the results, no rust. One thing I had to get used to that was different than cleaning my centerfires was that the bigger bored, long guns require a lot more "product" than I was used to and I think...

    Safe carry of muzzleloaders

I will be new to hunting with a percussion gun this fall and to tell you the truth, hunting with a live cap on a load makes me nervous thinking about it. What I am hearing is that leaving the hammer in half cock is better than no cock/resting on the cap. The reason being that something...

    measuring shot

How does the difference in shot size fit into this? Is there a large difference, volumetrically and by weight, when using a powder measure to measure #2 vs #9 shot. I would have to think there would be more individual pieces of shot in a volume of #9 than #2, thus making the payload slightly...

    Shotgunin

Yes, I have given that some thought. The only reason for me to reload barrel at this point, at my experience level, would be if both barrels were fired. I also don't want to shoot my eye out! I want the double simply for those doubles that flush or to give myself more time between reloads. I...

    Shotgunin

Hello I am newer to muzzeloading and enjoy hunting deer with my 50 cal rifle. I can't believe I ever hunted deer with a centerfire! I also enjoy upland (pheasant, grouse), but have never tried to do it BP style. I would really like to get a double barreled BP shotgun. My question is: What...

    fixed sight sight in yardage

I am new to this so.. A few questions regarding sighting. I have a Traditions, Shenandoah, 50 cal, sidelock. I was told once that the gun requires some shooting to make the barrel "settle down". I am assuming that means it will take some time or "seasoning" for it to shoot consistently...
