    Conner Longrifles Antique Arms Show

Sirs, I'll be coming towards Indy from Illinois on I-70, how do I find the show? Are you off SR-37 north? I grew up in Nap-Town but have not lived there since 1974. Snow

    A question of long barrels.....

These Lincoln Land birds must be physics majors compared to your Empire State birds. I've tried off and on for ten years and can't seem to bring one to bare with flintlock or longbow... :surrender: Snow

starting point .20 gauge tukey loads??

Looking to try my .20 gauge Fowler on Illinois birds this spring. What would be a good starting point for load developement? Current small game load is 60 grains FFF, a 1/2" felt wad followed by a 1/8" card wad 1 oz. #6 shot and a thin over shot card to hold it all in place. Makes a good...

Iowa buck smashed my round ball

Lady Hawk, your load, round ball and shot placement are all on target! {pun intended} If'n you feel the need to change anything try some real black powder. You will find that 70 grains of FFF goex will produce greater velocities and more muzzle energy than an equivilent volume of Pyrodex...

    TVM barrel length preference

Particularly since you won't be hunting with this rifle I would opt for a B weight .50 cal 42"-44". At 6'5" you won't see the length as a handicap in loading and with 100 yard targets you'll appreciatte the longer sight radius a longer barrel offers. Besides as Cpn James says, " ...it will look...

When Casting Balls with a Modern Mould...

Just a side question. When using my Lyman .575 mould I get consistant size and weight but when using my Lee .600 mould I'll get inconsistant weight and diameter. Why? Everything else is the same, lead source, pot etc...the only variance is the mold and perhaps the mood of the guy casting the...

    Buck Fever

I can't say for Jethro and those monster bucks in his part of the state but these deer in eastern Illijoy are pretty sophisticated. Calling just helps them locate you and they'll run in the opposite direction... Snow

    Roundball shooting and stock fit??

Capt'n, As far as wing shooting goes you are quite right. As a youngster I had no formal shotgun instruction. I was trained with a .22 using the old NRA target rifleman method. When the upland season opened I was handed a .410 and told "go get'um"! What brought this discussion about was a...

    Roundball shooting and stock fit??

Considering a new smoothie but in the past I've never been able to shoot a roundball accurately using just a front sight. My wing shooting has been rather poor as well. While in discussion about this with a friend he said, " well, String Bean get a gun that fits those 4 foot arms..." That got me...

    tvm leman or virginia

So what's to stop you from having Matt build you a Virgina with a 36" OR 32" barrel? Are you looking for a hunting rifle or want a gun to pass muster at a historical event? If its a hunting gun, get the Virgina with a short barrel, load it heavy and go kill elk   Snow

    Calibers and history

Perhaps elk and buffalo were not the concern but rather ursus horriblus. I do believe since horseback was a more prevelent mode of transport in the west, although certainly not exclusive too, the weight of supplies to feed the larger calibers was of less concern to the free trapper of the west...

Besides being among the left sided elite :haha: my other handicap is being 6'5" hence I find the butt stock of most tradeguns a tad short. What would be the LOP on that 'lil beauty? Snow
