    Tulle aka: Fusil De Chase

How do you feel about the French trade gun? Specifically the Stock design? I would think the flowing low butt of the French Fusil would be rough to shoot and a cheek buster. Am I wrong? All my experience has been with the English style trade gun, not all that pleasant to shoot with stout hunting...

    Custom deer pistol

If one does not start shooting how can they acquire the skill to hunt with the pistol...as an archer I agree you just can't go slinging arrows in the woods but if you acquire a well built longbow and start shooting one may reach the level of skill necessary to cleanly take game.

    New 16 Bore problem

Yes, I thought about Callahan and may go that way but I have Lyman handles and they once made a .646 round ball mold. Nothing against the gentleman in England but if I could acquire a mold from a U.S. manufacturer I would prefer to do so.

    New 16 Bore problem

I have acquired a "16" gauge smoothbore. Its a dandy little thing with a 26" barrel and a Chambers Early Colonial Lock that is a sparking machine. On closer inspection the bore measures .655, closer to a 17 gauge. Would anyone know where I could find an old Lyman .646 Round ball mold? I usually...

What size round ball for a 12 ga?

If you can measure the bores of each barrel, do so. Bore size can vary from one manufacturer to an other. That said, a .690 should work with patching. I have used .690 to .715 depending on the individual gun. As to powder charge, 70 grains of FF Goex is a good starting point. I once had a Curly...

    New "16" gauge smoothly help

Stumpy, what kind of loads are you using? I was thinking 60 gr of FF with an ounce as a starting point. Maybe as high as 82 grains ( 3 drams) of 1F or 2F with 1 1/4 ounce. I like to use V M Star's advise and use thinner wads stacked over the powder and a single wad over shot.

    New "16" gauge smoothly help

I just picked up a sweet little 16 gauge. Light weight smooth handling with a 26" barrel, and the big chambers lock is a sure sparker! When I measured the bore it was only .655 ?! So what size round all would you use? Better does anyone make a mold in say... .635? Track has .626, maybe with a...

    Quick second shot?

A good philosophy to take however the animal doesn't always play by your rules. That perfect 50 yard broadside shot can get ugly fast when your quarry decides to take a step forward just or turn a different direction just as you squeeze off the shot. Two years past, I had a mature doe at 15...

Question: PRB in a 12ga cylinder barrel

I used a .690 RB with .020 denim patch but preferred a.715 over a 12ga 1/2" wad and a card on top. Both I loaded with 82 grains of FF which pounded hard on both ends of the weapon. :shocked2: Snow

Can a DOM barrel be lined?

I have a 15 year old 20ga Flintlock built by a Mississippi gunsmith. Over all the gun is pretty good but the barrel has always been a concern. It is straight octagon to round with several groves running the length of the bore almost giving the appearance of straight rifling. My question is two...
