    Cheapest Material for Cleaning Patches?

My mother-in-law volunteers at a local hospital. She gets the sheets and gowns when they are too old or too far gone to reuse in the hospital. She gives some to me. Cheap(free) and they work great, though I wouldn't recommend shooting with them.

    Cap question?

Tried several different nipples. Same problem with all of them, including a brand new one. Everything was cleaned several times in the field and on the bench. This lock has been rebuilt as we thought that might have been the problem. Tried adjusting the main lock screws in and out for tightnes...

    Cap question?

The really bad tin was Winchester Magnums from Wal-mart. They were sealed in plastic. No chance of the local yokels tampering or playing pranks.

    Cap question?

The caps seemed to fit on the nipple ok, but when I squeezed the trigger, it was hit and miss as to whether or not it would go off on the first try. Usually if I reset the hammer and squeeze the trigger again it would go off. Some would go off the first time, others it took two or three times...

    Bad caps and misfires

I just recently had some problems similar to this. As it turns out,one of the screws in the lock on my rifle was loose, and not swingin the hammer down fast enough or hard enough to fire the cap on the first try. Might be somethin to check out.

I have a 50 cal hawken style rifle with the crescent buttplate like you were talkin about. I have always shot it with the butt in the shoulder pocket with my elbow out and up. it was the way I was taught. if I move the placement of the butt plate, my shots are way off, usually up and down. And...
