How long does 1’000 caps last for an average shooter

I'm not trying to talk anybody into or out of anything. If the NSSA does it they surely have their reasons. You probably have enough experience cleaning your guns that you don't leave excess oil in the flash channel. Probably go off perfectly without any snapped caps.

How long does 1’000 caps last for an average shooter

I think that works for you because of the way you do it. The problem is cap snapping into a ignition channel that is contaminated by too much oil or whatever the shooter has put into the bore after the previous clean up. The snapped cap can't possibly clear the Goomba out and then mixes with...

Shooting patch sizing, ball diameter or bore diameter ?

These are large enough for 54 and probably 58 but were fired from a 50 caliber barrel. The extra size was not a problem. My own minimum size size is the circumference of the ball. A bit larger is easier to work with.

CO2/compressed air to clear flash channel?

I'm sure that would work. Myself, I look for the simplest solution to problems. I'll say first off that clear ignition channels have not been a problem for me. It starts with how you finished the job when you last cleaned the rifle. I'll describe my cleaning procedure first. You probably...

    Schutzen 3F thoughts

I've been shooting Scheutzen for quite a while now. I shoot it because they support our local clubs. I have five pounds of the "Estes Goex" but haven't shot it enough to see any difference. I'm sure it's good powder.

@Gum Slough Muzzleloader I'm definitely wishing you the very best. And writing letters to whom it may concern to get FEMA straightened out.

How long does 1’000 caps last for an average shooter

If it's properly cleaned and stored there's no reason to pop caps. If there is any excess oil in the flash channel popping a cap only gives it more substance to interfere with ignition. I have never popped a cap for clearance and never had a first shot failure to fire. If residual oil is...

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

Catch those and send them to me. I'll put them in The Colony for a few weeks and they will be properly re-educated. Then back to you. Do paint their tails so as not to shoot them after release. They will be invaluable as teachers and envoys. Soon your locals will confront you head on. They...

How long does 1’000 caps last for an average shooter

Don't concern yourself, order another 1000 as soon as possible and keep shooting without counting. 😀 Unless you are very hunter oriented then I agree with @JDBraddy that 70 grains is probably on the high side. I rarely load more than 45 grains in my 45 but only shoot it for small game and...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Attended a match at my club. It was well attended and the company was great. Although this was a match, my main plan was to shoot the rifle that I have just coned. This one is for a granddaughter and it needs to be checked out carefully and prepared for use. It had never been fired before...

    First muzzleloading elk hunt...

When I hunted in a rainy place one year I carried a sort of vinyl/oilcloth slip on cover. It was made by Browning but I don't see one like it anymore. This one below is by Browning and it might work for you if it's long enough. One made for a shotgun would be better...

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

When I lived in Wisconsin for a few years I had access to some great squirrel hunting. There were grays and Fox squirrels in the same territory. We occasionally killed obvious mixed heritage squirrels. They were always big and the colors were mixed on the bodies. All the squirrels in that...

    First muzzleloading elk hunt...

Pretty much the same as bow hunting. When I have hunted them in first rifle even though the rut is winding down the bulls are still excited at the idea of finding an estrus cow and can be really stupid over an in heat cow call.
