In terms of the squirrels that like to sneak up from behind.............they are cowards who do not play fair. They sometimes make me wish I had a set of eyeballs in the back of my head.
The last squirrel I shot was on the small size. He came up behind me and stated his mouth, he watched me slowly turn and shoulder the Crockett. He won't bo it anymore.
First week of season I sat in this little opening in amongst the saplings and American Beautiy Berries and felt something moving, it was the vines next to me, I looked up about 4 feet above my head was a squirrel tight roping it across the horizontal vines.

I think it's cool seeing the crazy things they do.

Squirrel Rifle Update #2:

Jax Black I need to finish barrel out for delivery, so I should get that done this evening.

I have a blank rear sight I'm going to make into a peep, that's really the only fabricating left. Maybe darken some screws, etc.

The 600 pound gorilla in the room is the stock: Dang it, will you hurry up and dry already? Sheesh...

That is a very nice looking piece of wood. Can't wait to see it when you get her done.

Thank you Duk.
It's the other folks in its path that I'm worried about. I hope they are prepared and their homes are well built.

Catch those and send them to me. I'll put them in The Colony for a few weeks and they will be properly re-educated. Then back to you. Do paint their tails so as not to shoot them after release. They will be invaluable as teachers and envoys. Soon your locals will confront you head on. They will be a challenge to your marksmanship. In the end, better squirrels and sharper hunter.
😂

Hammer, how is the assembly going?
Squirrel Rifle Update #3:

Well boys, she's finished. I stayed true to Jim Kibler's original design, adding no embellishments. I stuck with the stock sights; I just filed the rear V notch into a little wider groove.

I did not rush on this build, and just took my time and enjoyed the process.

I'll post a few more pictures over in the The Gunbuilder's Bench.

I'm going to let it sit for a few days and let the finish get a little harder before I sight it in.

It looks very nice, Stan. Congrats.

The best I can tell from the pic, its most likely how I would want to finish one as well. Like the colors a lot. Waiting on the range report.

Me thinks that hurricane is going to ease on around you. It's thinking "that household is too danged feral to tangle with ". But just in case, have your bug out bags ready. Google says you are 16 1/2 hours from me, I'll be there in 15 if you need me brother.

We should make it.
It's great to know if I need help you'd be here.

I hope it just goes away but I don't think so.

Just making some patches and Muzzleloadering around. Waiting this out. Just hope folks make it through this one ok.

Thanks, Snakebit.

That is very nice! If she shoots as good as she looks nobody will be able to get you out of the woods.

Hi all. Been loaded up as happens in the life of a busy parent. My mom is also in Pinellas flood zone A so I’ve had the added load of making sure she got squared away and out of her place. Now just hoping it’s still standing when she gets back home.

I have been diligently working on getting geared up for the move to traditional small game hunting, but the important things first.

Fred- I sincerely hope you and all of your loved ones get through the storm safely. That goes for any others here who may be in harms way.

Ed- So glad all is going well with your recovery! Hope it continues and you’re out there seeing like a 25 year old soon.

My Crockett arrived! Will get pics up this weekend. Thanks to all for the help and advice. I also have ordered mink oil, 18pt pillow ticking and replacement nipples from TOTW.

We should be at the range Saturday and out in the woods next weekend. I’m not sure if I will get anything on the first attempt, but can share pics of the height of New England fall foliage. Hunting in the woods this time of year is so beautiful that I almost don’t care if I get anything. Just great scenery and time hanging out with my son.

Win/win for me.

Stay safe fellas….
