    Tang Mount Sight-Protect Bluing ?

I've always used 2 layers of black electrical tape -- and you can trim it with sharp scissors to match the base; pre-cut holes with a hole punch as needed. Works great! Old No7

    Antonio Zoli?

You only paid $100 for it? I've seen those range from $350 to $550 asking price -- and selling in-between. Take some of the $$ saved and buy a lottery ticket! Old No7

Aging a Confederate D Guard Bowie Knife

Thanks for the comments and tips posted above. I just realized I didn't add an image from this year's event... "No snow" for the VT Biathlon, but a grand time was had by all. The kids who attend get thrilled when they get to handle "a real Civil War Sword". That's on my left hip, with the D...

New Uberti 1861 Navy from Midway. Buyer Beware!

That's great advice for any company you have an issue with -- and always remember: "Managers mindlessly follow policy to the letter -- Leaders wisely change it to fit the situation." I've used that quote many times with managers before and then asked them, "Which do you want to be?" And most...

Can I use lead shot in a Cold Walker?

It's possible, but... Sam Fadala who published a number of blackpowder how-to books did some extensive testing with lead shot, and he found the rifling resulted in a "donut-shaped pattern" -- lots of lead in a band around the circle, but not so much in the center where you were aiming. Old No7

    Spin Jag Loader

Wait a second........ * * DIFFERING OPINION ALERT! * * If you have a fast-twist rifle used on a rod with a fixed T-Handle -- IT DOES WORK! My Navy Arms Volunteer has a FAST 1-in-20" twist and the spin-jag really does help keep the rod stable while the patch follows the rifling. For a...

No, not true -- one dog was shot a few postings back, and the other ran off -- there are no more dogs on this posting. Ugly Ducklings? Most likely! Old No7

Pyrodex RS (FF equivalent) in a revolver

Well, we may have to agree to disagree... I've heard that for years, but my experience is 180 degrees opposite. I've shot Pyrodex P in my Stainless Old Army for many decades, and still do; but the only time I've ever had a speck of rusting on the nipples or in the chambers -- after following...

WANTED 1860's Tang Sight for Target Rifle -- Parker-Hale Navy Arms 1856 Volunteer .451

On my "unmentionables", I have several nice Soule or Williams peep sights, but those post-date my rifle by too many decades. Does anyone have a decent tang sight sitting unused that would be period correct for the above rifle? I'm leaning towards the Mortimer square-shaft sight, as that has...

Breech plug removal. Jag and cloth stuck in barrel

That's a good tip, as I've seen several damaged and very ugly looking TC breech plugs; and I suspect most were never gotten off, yet showed permanent marks of various attempts -- so I too would just remove the rod and shoot it out. Old No7
