    Sante Fe Hawken Kit

Allen Firearms had an outlet in one of the Albuquerque Malls in the early 80s. I purchased a '61 navy with detachable stock from them. they were not manufacturers, just resellers, like Cimarron. my '61 in addtion to being marked Allen Firearms was also marked A. Uberti, it is likely they both...

    Flintlock musket safety?

we still use the term half cocked today, though a 1873 colt never had a flint ignition it is loaded by putting in in half **** to release the bolt so the cylinder rotates freely, same for percussion revolvers, the half **** also is what the term was for the safety notch on percussion guns...

    Flintlock musket safety?

the origin of half cocked is from percussion guns as this was a new thing. Most of us if not all carry our flintlocks primed while hunting. I have NEVER had an AD nor has anyone I know or heard about, and some people have a rough time using a pencil without hurting themselves. nervous nellies...

Minié Balls in a Parker Hale 1858 Enfield

large soft lead bullets are very hard to size in my experience. I have a custom 550 gr 45 cal paper patch custom mold I had made for my 45-120. the bullets must first be sized to .451, then paper patched then sized again to .458. it is extreamly difficult to size them without deforming the noses...

    Flintlock musket safety?

I have a '66 Charlville, been loading it that way for years. I can not say this about all muskets, but when mine is in half ****, there is no chance of sparking like a siler or l&r lock the main spring does not get stiff enough to move the frizzen till you approach full ****. to spark it needs...

ideas an a new project Please

I have no experience with anything smaller than a 32 cal and its pretty dinky! 40 gr, its about as small as I would really ever need, but who knows, I might go mouse hunting some day  . it would likely be expensive, I don't know of any barrel makers who bore that small, so that'll cost ya...

    Lehigh Valley Rifles

I am 6'2" and 240 lbs, with a 14" length of pull, there is so much drop in the stock I have to droop my shoulder a little, it was just not a comfortable posture. But I do like the look.

    Lehigh Valley Rifles

see if you can shoot one before investing, I wanted one too yill I fired one, the drop in the stock is too much for me and I had to assume an uncomfortable posture to shoot it. Pretty rifle, but did not fit me. some have said they fit well, so I sugest try before you buy

CVA Hawken lock / hammer issue, HELP!

if you do not have set triggers, rhis is pretty straight forward, if they are set triggers as you pull the front trigger notice which bar rises, estimate where the bar touches the sear arm and remove a little metal from the trigger bar, and retry with tang screw tightened, repeat till there is...

CVA Hawken lock / hammer issue, HELP!

that means the sear adjustment screw is fine, you need to remove a small amount of metal from the triggrt bar at a time till the sear arm is not being pushed as the screw is tightened likely only a 32nd or 2

CVA Hawken lock / hammer issue, HELP!

just loosen the tang screw a few turns and see if the hammer is solid in full ****, that will tell you if its yhe trigger or the sear, no need to disassemble till you pin the problem down a bit further

CVA Hawken lock / hammer issue, HELP!

there is a small screw in the tumbler of the lock that adjusts sear engagement it is likely adjusted too far in, not allowing enough sear engagement or the trigger bar is not allowing enough room for the sear to fully engage. loosen the tang screw and see if that makes it solid in full ****, if...

    Cva Hawkin double trigger

and not much space behind the trigger, as the set triggrer is nearly back to the triggergard anyway. and since CVAs fire set and unset if you just ignore the back trigger, you would have the same thing going for you.

    french or english flints

I use both, I have a Charleville, so out of respect for her, I use french flints, but the english ones I get from TOTW are perfect in my locks and outlast everything else I have used, they are pretty much self knapping, so if it ain't broke...

Good vs Bad Sprue Shooting Test: Lee Mold

depending on the diameter of the drum, you need at least 1 - 2 hundred balls the drum should be half full, and it takes over night, like 10+ hours, then another hour of 2 with water and dawn.

Good vs Bad Sprue Shooting Test: Lee Mold

it does not change the diameter it simply rounds them perfectly so there is no sprue, and no need to try to find the sprue to point forward specially in low light, just grab a ball and load it just like a Hornady swaged ball. all the ball mill does is roll a lot of balls together and smooth and...

Good vs Bad Sprue Shooting Test: Lee Mold

not a vibratory tumbler, The rolling of the balls against each other is what rounds them, the ball mill pictured is only about $30 a lot cheaper than a turbo tumbler from Lyman. fluxing the pot and smoking the molds will insure they fill out cleanly stopping the air bubbles at the sprue area...

Good vs Bad Sprue Shooting Test: Lee Mold

Colorado Clyde is correct. this is my small ball mill I got it at Harbor Freight, it was very inexpensive. I have a bigger one that I bought years ago when I was making BP and supplying all my buddies with round balls. since lead is so soft it rolls up into perfect balls, works great on...
