    Accuracy....

At 41 yards that beyond amazing. I am still trying to figure out why one day I can shoot a 2.5 inch group at 25 yards and a week latter its 4 and 6 inches. And I though bench rest rifle target was hard!

Do Colts Open Tops Shift POI?

Mike, Thank you. I am getting some wild stuff on the posts so a bit of a hard time working through it. Has to do with formatting and such, working with admin to see if I can get it cleared up

Do Colts Open Tops Shift POI?

Anyone else getting lots of format options and weird stuff with reading some of the Posts?

Do Colts Open Tops Shift POI?

Mike: Thank you. I am a bit lazy in once I got it working I tend to leave it. I will keep an eye on it. There is one large spacer and the beer can. Shim is probably not the right term though the beer can might be a shim. I would have to dig the setup out and I glued the bottom one...

    Help for a rookie please

I am seeing some wild stuff on replying to the post. All sort of setup stuff and have reported it. The basic thing on Black Powder is weights and measures are not the same though in theory 3F via a measure of say 10 should also be 10 grains. But there is no standard for that, each...

Do Colts Open Tops Shift POI?

One Shim is a washer up in the Arbor hole and the other is a beer can cut out.

Do Colts Open Tops Shift POI?

I noted last night when doing my gap checks that the Wedge is moving a bit deeper into the slot with the tap now. I am guessing my shims are compressing. Still good and I have a bit of space before it hits the screw. Add a small thickness shim if it does hit the Screw on the shim?

Do Colts Open Tops Shift POI?

I bought a plastic mallet I keep in my BP box so when at the range I have at least a consistent device to tap, or course how hard I tap it varies but I try to keep it the same. I had over shimmed it and was getting a lock up. I might be able to add some super thing shim material and get a tad...

Do Colts Open Tops Shift POI?

I do have it shimmed. Oddly it was consistent high with unmentionable and not shifting around cylinder change to cylinder change. . I am trying to be consistent with the smack to seat the wedge Other thought was sight picture but not sure why I would change it as I know to fill the...

Do Colts Open Tops Shift POI?

I had two previous sessions with the 47 Walker and my home built front sight. The unmentionable cylinder was hitting 5 inches high, BP cylinder quite close at a tad low. Today, the unemotional loads were hitting pretty close to POA, got some decent groups. So the $64 question is...

The Colt Open Top Hammer Sight

I had Silver Bearing solder and went with that. Solid so far. At a guess if you wanted to average the POI with both BP and unmentionable, we would be talking .350-380 and you would be a couple inches high or a couple inches low. Its working and I can keep it on the paper fine so just...

    Maximum loads for 1858 Remington

What was the range, how many shots, what size group?

    My First Black Powder Firearm!

Good luck with it. A take down and deep cleaning would be the first thing. Lube up and assemble and see what the action feels like. Then decide from there where to go with things. Do any polish work last as you may be back in a time or two. I am not up on the open top Colt...

    Maximum loads for 1858 Remington

But have you done it? Lots of Urban Legend stuff you can read. In a 47 Walker that is going to be well over 1000 FPS. Ruger may handle it but what is the point if its a wild load or you lead up the bore?

    Too much trouble.....

So what is the perceived advantage? All I can see is back in the day it gave you consistency. Anyone that shoots a BP now is astute enough to do a reliable job of it , vs someone off the farm who you just ran through basic. I am not saying a farm lad was dumb, nor a city guy, but...

Toy Caps in a Black Powder Revolver

I was digging under my shop bench and a tin caught my eye, hmm, that looks like Caps. Yep, from the era, it was a 2nd tin of Caps my wife had to have given me when she gave me the ASP NMA. I found another tin in the same area a while back. No memory of Caps with that gun, but that...

    Issues with new Pietta.

Yea I got my serious lesson on the 76 ASP NMA my wife had and gave to me. Very nice action. I am not an SA guy let alone BP at the time. Then I found that the bolt was supposed to (ahem) get out of and stay out of the way when you pulled the hammer back to half cock. It was getting...
