    Punch size?

Update: I finally had an opportunity to try the 7/16" wads and they are just about perfect. I will keep doing them that way. I also made a few 3/8" wads for my .36 and those are just a hair on the large size, but with 1/8" thick felt, they still go in a lot better than the thinner Precision...

Best book for Atlas 12x36" lathe.

Best book for Atlas 12x36" lathe.

To be honest, I haven't seen anything better than How to Run a Lathe. It is still considered the beginner's bible. This booklet might be helpful for threading: http://vintagemachinery.org/pubs/1617/3537.pdf

I noticed they recently updated thier website to actually show what's in stock or not. That's good!

    Punch size?

I was planning on using a 7/16" (.438") punch for my Dad's Remington, but I haven't tried it yet. Hopefully someone knowledgeable will let us know!

Why does the Uberti Baby Dragoon have a rounded trigger guard

They're just marketing names to try and keep the variations straight, but the "Baby Dragoon" usually has the square back trigger guard, and the "1849" and "1849 Wells Fargo" do not. The name "Wells Fargo" is itself inaccurate as they never actually purchased any.

Ever put Uberti grip on Pietta revolver?

As I understand it, the Pietta grip is larger toward the lower back portion. I think the brass frame would have to be reshaped to fit Uberti wood. This video might cover it?

Barrel tenons for Kentucky Rifle Traditions

I agree with JB67, the factory pins are way bigger than they need to be. I used 1/16" drill rod on mine.

Will the bottom fall out of the custom build business?

What's wrong with man buns? You think Wild Bill never tied his hair back? 😁

    Inherited muzzleloaders

Easy to avoid if one doesn't mention anything gun-related in the payment description. Quite a few sellers on Gun Broker accept PayPal that way.

Ball mold - a nice looking failure

That's a good looking mold for a first attempt; better than I could do! I just happened to use a ball endmill in my lathe today and I had the same issue: the worn tailstock couldn't hold it rigidly enough. Technically, we shouldn't be holding endmills in the tailstock anyway, but we do what we...

First Cap and Ball Revolver Recommendations

I have a 5" barrel Uberti 1851, no complaints, but I can see how the 7.5" barrel version would be easier to load. I think the 7.5" ones are generally a bit cheaper if that matters.

    My first Pietta…issues

I lucked out, too. The 1851 5" barrel I bought from Midway was nice and came in a Taylor's box and cloth bag.

That's good to know. Thank you

    TAYLOR'S & COMPANY

I don't know about the ownership or anything like that, but I am kind of...miffed...with them about my last order. I ordered three parts for my 1851 just to have on hand, all of which showed in stock, but they only shipped two of the items. They didn't bill me for the third item, which is...

1137 vs 12L14 for muzzleloader barrels

I say debate because if a barrel manufacturer advertises "4140" and sources plain old multi-purpose 4140 to save a buck, it's possibly no stronger than a 12L14 barrel. If on the other hand, he uses "hardened" or "stress relieved" 4140 (the 95000 psi stuff) you're indeed getting a superior...

1137 vs 12L14 for muzzleloader barrels

I've seen this debate come up before on the forum, but when 4140 is mentioned, what state are we assuming it is in? Annealed 4140 and cold drawn 12L14 have the same yield strength believe it or not: 60200 psi. Normalized 4140 has a yield of 95000 psi. Quenched and tempered 4140 can get around...

    Satin final coat

2 weeks between coats? It's as dry as it's ever going to get. I think you're expecting too much; no oil finish is going to protect from a drop on the floor.
