    My first BP pistol.

Sorry, I probably used the wrong term. I was referring to the wedge that retains the barrel. Hooked breech makes it real easy to remove the barrel for cleaning.

    Lyman GPR Primitive Sight

Thanks folks! Great advice here. bubba 50 I tried your socket method and it worked like a charm. Sight is in nice and tight. I got it lined up with the aperture sight before I removed it. I really like the aperture and will have it back on sooner or later, but didn't draw any hunts this...

    Lyman GPR Primitive Sight

I'm trying to install the primitive sight that came with my GPR. It just slides right through the dovetail with a fair amount of play. Anyone know how far one can safely peen down the edges of the dovetail to make it fit? Would a shim or another replacement sight be a better solution? Thanks.

    My first BP pistol.

I have one in flintlock I really like. Need to shoot it more but from what I've seen it's quite accurate. The keyed barrel makes it a cinch to clean too.

    Flintlock rifles in Alaska

Best thing about Anchorage is that it's not too far from Alaska. I don't care for the place and don't go there much but always try to get a little real black powder when I do go. I save it for my flintlock pistol and my future rifle and smoothbore. and probably will keep on shooting...

    Apartment Longrifle Transportation?

Don't they sell large tubes for surveying equipment? You could also make a tube out of pvc. Just walk out with the tube and your shooting gear in a Pelican case while wearing an orange vest and a hard hat. I would think they would be less likely to break into someone's home to steal work...

    Small Bore Pedersoli?

Anyone know if Pedersoli Blue Ridge rifles are available new in anything smaller than a 50 caliber? Thanks.

    BP Substitute Questions

I made that same trip earlier this year. Will probably do it again in about a month. Even though I'm sitting on some Goex now I'm still only shooting Pyrodex in my caplocks. My only flintlock is a pistol but I hope to change that when I find the right deal....gun show tomorrow!

    Standard length of Pull ?

Does anyone know if any production small bore flintlock rifles come in a 14 inch LOP? I have a Lyman GPR that's around that size and if fits me very well. I'm a big guy, about 6'6".

    Squirrel gun question

I've been thinking a small bore would be a good way to get into a flintlock rifle. It probably would not be used as a "squirrel rifle" since all we have around here are scrawny red squirrels. Plenty of other small game, however. I'd probably be taking most of my shots at inanimate objects...

    That imitation black powder

Availability of real powder was the reason I started out with a caplock. I'm starting to see that getting black powder, with a little planning is not a complete lost cause. I've picked some up on the two trips to Anchorage I've made in the last year so will be prepared when I eventually get a...

    Hello from Australia

Welcome! I'm a relative newcomer at this myself, (at a slightly different latitude) . Lot's of very friendly and knowledgeable folks from all over here. Keep us posted with pictures of your new rifle. You're going to enjoy it, but not sure it's going to have enough recoil to suit your taste :).

    Patch lube for cold weather

I second that. I've shot up here at below zero and it works great. I started out using Bore Butter and a tube of that stuff turns into a brick at even mildly cold temps. Did you get the Creamers Field hunt?

    traditions trapper?

I acquired a Trapper as a very generous gift from a friend last summer and I really like it. I Installed a 5/8 x 5/8 English flint from TOTW. I had to use a thinner piece of leather to get enough clearance, but have had a couple shooting sessions with it without a single misfire. The hooked...
