    London Armory reproduction Enfield 1853

All would be European walnut, so no difference there. Amount of wood would certainly be part of it, but I believe the Armi Sport guns have thicker barrels as well.

    CVA Hawken year produced

Yep, not knocking them, most do like the Mountain rifle, and they are more authentic looking but they just don't suit me. Just a personal opinion. My brother and I had several CVA's in the late 70's early 80's, Mountain rifles, big bore mountain rifle, Frontier rifle, I still have one flintlock...

    CVA Hawken year produced

I like the CVA Hawken better than the CVA Mountain Rifle.

    1853 Enfield bad range day

Best advice I can give is, listen to Dave, he knows his stuff.

    Nice Piece Of Wood

No, that's definitely an Investarm made gun. Kind of copied from Thompson Center.

    1853 Enfield bad range day

Absolutely the first step is to determine bore size, if the minies are too small you can change powder charges all day and it won’t do any good. Pin gauges on Amazon are cheap, get a couple in the .577 .579 range.

    CVA Mountain Rifle

They may not be for everybody, but most seem to like them.

Trying to get an ID or any info really. No serial numbers or nothing

I did one of those Dixie longrifles in the 1980's. Same precarve stock with the incise line carved along the ramrod channel, same sideplate. I did do marginally better, I at least attempted to shape the lock panel!

    CVA Mountain Rifle

All the Mountain rifles were slow twist, US and Spanish, as well as the Frontier. The later Hawkens were 1 in 48.

    CVA Mountain Rifle

No, that was one of the selling points over TC, "round ball twist", I think they were 1 in 66".

Trying to get an ID or any info really. No serial numbers or nothing

That appears to be one of those assortment of parts Dixie gun works used to sell, and as stated someone's first attempt.

    CVA Mountain Rifle

Honestly I've found the Spanish barrels to shoot every bit as good as the USA barrels.

    Spiller and Burr

I just use regular old shotgun choke grease and shot six cylinders in a row without any cleaning and no binding whatsoever. I think it is important to not only grease the cylinder pin, but also pack some in the hole in the cylinder for the pin.

    Chiappa 1842 Rifled Musket

They are decent guns, I have one in smoothbore. I did have to replace a mainspring once but other than that I have had no issues. As far as correctness, they are one of the closest to original off the shelf Civil War repros available. Rifled or smooth are both correct, some of the smoothbores...

    Spiller and Burr

Mine is the same way, i use a very thin bladed knife to hold the hand in while I insert the cylinder.

Cheap imported flintlock rifles from the 80s.

My brother had a Kassnar import in the 70"s, he used to put wooden strike anywhere match heads in the jaws to get it to shoot.

    Tunnel To Success

Yep, the Investarm touch hole liners need a little extra care to work well. You can also enlarge the hole slightly, that's what I did on my Trade rifle which is now very reliable.

Made in the USA CVA Mountain rifle question

I'd just leave the screw alone, there's really no need to take it out.

    Minie Recommendation

You have to measure the bore, even rifles from the same maker, the same model manufactured the same year can vary quite a bit. Measure first, then you need a minie no more than .002 under bore size. You can't necessarily count on the mold dropping the bullet the exact size the mold claims to...

I am probably a bonehead I just need help knowing how

Before doing anything with the bore, work more on the load. Switch from FFG to FFFG powder, less fouling that way. Are you using pure soft lead? If your lead is too hard, the minie may not be expanding letting the gases go past on firing, fouling the bore. What are you using for lube? A...
