It appears the Pincher Creek shoot is still on.

Great news. Have a good time.

Why is a fast twist bad for a round ball?

All I can say is that a longer (and therefore heavier) projectile, FOR THE SAME CALIBER, requires a faster twist to stabilize it. 1 in 48 is a compromise which allows both round ball and boolits to work reasonably well. Although not ideal for either. I have a theory that by playing with...

Failing eyes- loosing the front sight cure

I recently took to putting fiber optic front sights on my guns. Makes a big difference for using open sights, I only have an operature on one of mine. Surely isn't HC but I'm not worried about being judged for that. Luckily most of the folks I shoot against are old enough to understand or not...

    Alberta Shoots

Some light at the end of the tunnel? It appears some clubs haven't completely cancelled their matches for this summer. Yet. What's going on in other parts of the world?

    Percussion caps

Mostly CCI for me. Have dabbled with Remington and Winchester with no complaints. CCI is just most commonly available in my part of the country.

Hello from the Great North of Quebec

Seems like there's no truley great muzzleloader suppliers up here in the big northern. Never dealt with them but Hillfolk is well regarded. My issue is their lack of online shopping. My problem. Rustywood has some supplies. X2 for Track, you might also want to check out The Gun Works in...

What are you doing this winter?

I'm thinking that by the time the Ramrodder's shoot comes around we'll be back to business as usual. More or less. 3 months is quite a spell. Maybe some of the earlier gatherings will be affected. As much as possible, I'm just going about my life as much as normal as possible. Some friends...

What are you doing this winter?

After a winter spent pretty well away from home, finally getting started on my Renegade. Shaved the butt down a bit, less than fully satisfactory design seems to be a fairly common complaint. Really surprised by how little I had to take off, seemed like not much more than the factory finish...

help to select accessories to 1st rifle

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that, like so many of us, you don't have a good supplier close at hand and will be mail-ordering most of your stuff? If so, a couple of suppliers I can recommend are Track of The Wolf and The Gun Works Muzzleloading Emporium. If you send me your...

help to select accessories to 1st rifle

Not sure it's a real necessity, you might want a breech scraper as well. I like to use mine occasionally but it may not be of any real value. When I do use it I never find any evidence of fouling on it after. If nothing else it's a feel good thing. I use a bore mop myself but a good fitting...

Any metal sigths to substitute the Traditions plastic ones?

Looks to be a lot of holes in the area of the rear sight which could make it easier to locate a sight base that would flange up. Is that a screw through your current rear sight? All those holes might make mounting some kind of sight interesting depending on what size(s) they were tapped for...

Any metal sigths to substitute the Traditions plastic ones?

It may take some online searching but I'm sure you can find what you need, although it may require finding bits and pieces to assemble. I couldn't make any suggestions right off the top of my head. Might help if you can advise us on distance between screw holes for each sight.

help to select accessories to 1st rifle

Using a steel range rod, you may need to find a method or device to ensure the rod can't rub the muzzle. I also use a bore brush occasionally, when reversing it, ensure you give it a good twist to "unlock" the bristles or you could be very sorry. Not absolutely neccessary and I'm sure a lot...

    First time pouring lead balls

If you have a good mold and technique, I don't think there's any need or advantage to further smoothing. Keep working at it and you'll soon have it figgered. Took me a little while to achieve satisfactory results but once I found that my setup in an unheated garage during cooler weather wasn't...

Teflon tape as a bullet wrap

Absolutely incorrect. The earth spins the same direction, from west to east, no matter where you are on it. Your "THEORY" is nothing more than washerwomans' mythological, voodoo, hyped-up, overplayed and thoroughly accepted blindly by the ignorant mass tripe. However, the direction of wrap...

Keeping zero after removing barrel with tang sight

Wow! That is pretty substantial movement. Back when the Canadian army used the FN FAL, some competition shooters wouldn't remove the pivot pin when cleaning their rifle. As the rear sight was mounted on one piece and the front on another, they felt it wouldn't go back together exactly the...

    Woods Walk, Need Ideas

My club has to restrict the shooting to the established range so even if you don't know the exact range to your target, you can make a pretty fair estimate. Some of the challenges are; CDs blowing in the breeze on a string (they've never accepted my claim to have put it through the hole)...
