    stuck jag??

Don't you just hate it when some one finally suggests the obvious. If he can't get the original ramrod to thread back on there might be a chance that a cleaning rod with the correct thread configuration could be threaded onto the jag and then pulled out.

    stuck jag??

Try removing the barrel from the stock, put some fine oil down the bore and then place something soft, like a couple of layers of leather, or some rubber matting on the floor, turn the barrel muzzle down and slam it down on the soft pad, I believe it is kinetic energy we are talking about here...

    bending a tang

I've done it several times, hasn't really been that big of an issue, I've used a piece of metal pipe close to the arc I want and gently tap it around with a brass hammer.

    Jqeger barrel re- rifle job.

Hi folks, quick question. I contacted Robert Hoyt about re-rifling my Pedersoli Amarican Jaeger rifle, real nice guy, been down for a few months but is back up and going but starting to get busy already so I need to get this off to him. He said to just send the barrel, no problem, but I...

    Flintlock musket safety?

My two cents worth, and that is all it is worth, my firearms are mine and being such I can load and shoot them any way I choose, no matter how dangerous it is, however, under no circumstances do I have the right, freedom yes, right no, a lot of difference there, to use my firearms in anything...

    Great Plains Rifle Lock

Yes, in the process of building one of the GPR flint kits. It is really not that difficult, just take your time as others have said. The first thing I would do would be to order a main spring vice, if you don't already have one, you will need it and the cost is not all that much, especially...

    full stock Hawken flintlock

A while back I picked up a used flintlock lock, nice L&R conversion lock that fits the Lyman GPR. After thinking about it for a while I went on line a ordered me a full stock pre-shaped and partially inlet stock, the barrel and ramrod channels are inlet, the rest is up to me. I picked up a...

    CVA Mountain Rifle refinish

Are you sure it wasn't originally a kit? I've seen some kit guns that came with inletting too deep or off a bit, almost like they took parts that didn't meet production rifle specks and made them into kits. I owned a CVA mountain rifle that was a really good quality rifle that shot well...

    Flintlock Disassembley Help

I have also had success by putting moderate torque on the screwdriver and then tap the handle above your hand. You don't want to smack it hard or you can damage the screw head, it is the same principle as tapping the screw and then using the driver only this way you are applying moderate torque...

    Restocking a T/C Hawken .45

As far as inletting the parts into the new stock, make sure you have good sharp chisels for any of the inletting work, and go slow, and I mean slow. The biggest mistakes I have made was when I was trying to rush something, I am having to "fix" the trigger guard inlet right now on a project...

    Need Set Trigger Help

This is a side note, not directly on subject but one I wanted to insert here. For those of us who do not have access to good shim material I have found a source that is local and very easy to obtain, and not really too costly, and gives you a large variety of sizes. I just purchase any cheap...

    Lock geometry question....

I am assuming that you are talking about the front lock bolt when you talk about drilling the nose of the lock plate, but what is the possibility of using only one lock bolt, the center one. I've see cap locks installed this way, can a flintlock be installed this way also. If so then no hole...

    New barrel for Pedersoli Jaeger

Thanks to everyone, when the time comes,( read that when I have the money ), I will give mister Hoyt a call and see what he suggests, in the meantime I'll try some different round ball patch combinations and some slugs and see what I can come up with. A good friend of mine would like me to join...

building a rifle as a newbie

I've never tried to call TOTW, but have phoned Pecatonica a number of times and was always able to get through, they sounded like they were busy but still answered all my questions. I've also emailed them several times and received prompt replies.

    New barrel for Pedersoli Jaeger

I own a Pedersoli "American Jaeger" flintlock, don't care for the fast twist barrel and was wondering what would be the possibility of purchasing a slow twist barrel and mount it in my stock. I would have to match up the breach plug tang, and mount the same type of underlugs as on the original...

    Lock woes

I dealt with a similar problem on an L&R lock, the difference being that with the lock installed the frizzen would rebound back and "nap" the flint, was going through a lot of flints, but with the lock dismounted from the rifle it worked perfectly. I sent it back to L&R and they checked it out...

    Dry Patch?

I've mentioned this before, but I'll say it again here for what ever it is worth. The only time I have ever used a lubed patch was when I was hunting and needed to leave the rifle loaded all day, otherwise all I ever use is a well fitted patch that I stick in my mouth for a second or two before...

    WTB .610" round ball mould

I did a Google search and came up with a set of mold blocks from Lyman listed at TOTW for around $73, have no clue if they will throw the ball at exactly or very close to the stated diameter.
