Ruger Old Model Army brass grip frame

i've had a few. Wish I'd have kept one. There were approx 1100 originally made with brass grip frame. Ruger has confirmed mine by serial number when I've called in. Ruger did make "some" brass grip frames to sell after-market. Other companies made some, too, or so I've been told. These...

    Is that a Hawken?

Also...I have seen and held original Hawken pistols and shotguns, too! And I've seen and held some original HRMRs including some marvelous attempts at forgery.

    Is that a Hawken?

All this semi-senseless drivel has missed some simple facts. The Hawken Shop was a gunmaker's shop. They'd make just about anything the customer wanted! Some looked somewhat like the TC "Hawken" (or all the italian knock-offs) and these were unfortunately what was shown as real Hawkens in the...

    Need help identifying cannon

I'm a lifelong cannon nut, collector, builder for about 65 years. This is rather unique. Please do not polish the tube! There are many details that are not authentic. It is, like so many, a made-up and nicely executed sort of representation of a Civil War era field piece. Closest model would...

What would you do with a Whitworth barrel?

I make cannon models (fireable, & authentic). I think I answered this question a few months ago. I've always wanted to make a Whitworth, but want a barrel to start with. If this barrel is available, let's please talk about it. Thanks Jim Irwin "Cannonball" [email protected] 512-294-6331 Texas

    Who made this Hawken?

I built my first Hawken from parts I bought at The Longrifle Shop in Richardson, Texas, in 1974. It was the Cherry Corners kit of parts with. GR Douglas 54 cal barrel and walnut stock. Won lots of matches with it over many years. Anyway, if I remember correctly, there should be a pair of...

    Who made this Hawken?

One used to be able to buy stamps (supposedly authentic) to "forge" the Hawken name. I have an early Hawken shop Hawken I made in early 80s using the kit of parts from Ressel's shop. 100% authentic, or so it was claimed, (and I find no reason to doubt this). However the stamped name was not...

I preparation for the day I dry ball one

This will get the dry ball out....and fil your barrel with grease (If you brought enough grease, of course) but your day of shooting will be done. Perhaps that's best, so you learn a lesson in paying attention! But removing the nipple, and dribbling in some powder, then shooting it out gets you...

My Zoli Zouave is very sick

I used to shoot and win with muskets. There are lots of important factors to be controlled and optimize to get good results accuracy (hitting what you aim at) and precision (group size). Only some of these are particular to the gun. If you are capable of making a tight group with any...

Flintlock eats flints... What to do about it?

I've been building and tuning flintlocks over 50 years. Flint digs into soft steel, causing chips and fast wear. Frizzen too hard and flint skates off w/o sparking. The sparks are small bits of steel cut off from the frizzen with temperature high enough to make them burn in air. Like sparks from...

    Antique store Powder flasks

Dixon was still making flasks until fairly recently. Track had some on closeout back just a few years. Hawksley, too, as I remember (for whatever my memory is worth these days!)

Patch??? Not what you'd expect the question to be.

One might kill a mouse or chipmonk, case skin it, and put that on your horn for a real conversation starter!

Parker Hale Enfield 1861 - a couple of questions please

I'd like to see an 1861 Enfield. These are 1858 pattern, I believe. Springfield muskets started with the 1861.

What would you do with a Whitworth barrel?

I suppose that's why he has not replied to my query about his Whitworth barrel.

Recommend 44 cap and ball revolver

Just can't beat a Ruger Old Army for strength, durability, accuracy and precision! Maybe a challenge for concealed carry, tho'. However, there was a time they made a shorter barrelled version with fixed sights in 36 cal.

Help me ID my Brown Bess

"Real"? Well, yes. And old and moderately rough. I don't see any identifiable markings on it, so can't say where it's from or who might have made it. Can you see/show any markings anywhere? Looks pretty typically mid-19th century and pretty high end quality. What can you say about its history...
