You gave up on our members after only 2 1/2 hours? I know it's hard to believe but a lot of our members aren't here but once a day and some of them don't visit us more than once a week so I suggest giving them at least a day before giving up on them.

Looking for a compact long range small caliber blackpowder pistol for critters

Muzzleloading single shot pistols in calibers smaller than .32 are difficult to find. Likewise, finding a cap & ball revolver in calibers smaller than .32 are as rare as hen's teeth. There is a modern .22 cap & ball revolver made but I doubt that it would be accurate for long range shots. Now...

Bought a decoration, turns out it’s a real percussion rifle! Tips?

The Handguns section of the forum is the place to talk about pistols including the Ruger Old Army.

    Hello

Welcome to the forum. The Muzzleloading Forum is I think, the best forum around if you are interested in the old traditional muzzleloading guns like they made in 1865 or earlier. As is pointed out in the forum rules, we don't talk about modern in-line guns or any modern gun that uses self...

A book about spy's during the War Between The States.

I am reading the book, “SECRET MISSIONS of the Civil War” written by Philip Van Doren Stern, ©1959. The author did a great deal of research in the National Archives, the Manuscript Division of the Library of Congress and other library’s which contain actual documents from the Civil War. The...

    Un-confuse me about Uberti

I find it hard to believe that Uberti would spend the money to set up two different factories to produce guns of different quality. This would basically involve running one factory that uses outdated, worn equipment to produce the parts for the low quality guns and a modern factory using the...

CLOSED Lyman 57 GPR sight wanted

If you want to compete in annual matches I advise you to call the people who are running them. Specifically ask them if peep sights are OK to use. I mention this because before I had cataract surgery I had to use peep sights to see the front sight or target. I went to a muzzleloading shooting...

Would this flintlock fit on a CVA Kentucky pistol 45Cal.???

A reminder to folks. The forum rules include the following: 34: Do not post items for sale or trade. This includes links or item numbers on eBay or "good deals" on web sites.** 35: Do not post links to classified ads or auction items (yes, this includes the name of the domain and the item...

    Ruger old army question

It is against the forum rules to discuss conversion cylinders for cap & ball pistols or shooting self contained metallic cartridges. I am closing this thread.

    Cylinder reaming before/after

In my opinion, if your just shooting for fun and not doing any serious target shooting, you don't have to do a thing to get good enough accuracy to do the job. If you are into serious target shooting there is something you should know about almost all of the reproduction cap & ball pistols. The...

    Please school me on bullets

So Imacfrog, have you figured out what engraving is? Engraved metal has grooves cut into it. It may be in the form of some fancy shapes and designs or it might be speaking of something as simple as the grooves that are cut when a bullet is shoved into a rifled barrel. As for loading one of...

Need help Identifying “Martin Rifle Works”...

The gun appears to be one that was made within the last 50 years so this thread really belongs in the Flintlock area of the forum. The Firearms Identification section is for pre 1865 original guns. That said, almost any flintlock with a good condition bore is selling for well over $500, many...

    Middlesex Village Trading Co

That's not quite fair to the manufacturers in India but it is your opinion and you are entitled to it. Yes, many of them do make poorly made things but they also produce some high quality things like the Royal Enfield motorcycle I own. It has been 100% reliable and given me far fewer problems...

    Load for Brass 1851 navy

In the 2008 Dixie Gun Works catalogs they gave the chamber diameter for most of the revolvers they sold. The size for the .36 caliber Uberti seems to be a consistent .372" for 6 different pistols they made/make. That would shave .003 off of the diameter of a .375 ball which would be only .0015"...

    PECATONICA RIVER

Speaking of the Pecatonica River T/C stock, it is mentioned in the link Grenadier gave but some of you might have missed it. The T/C factory stock is made like a modern rifle stock. The drop at the heel of the stock is only about 1 3/4 inches. This sort of drop is good for shooting with...

    Pendersoli 44 Kentucky ball size

If it is actually a .44 caliber gun then you are right. Although they don't offer a .430 diameter ball, Track of the Wolf has .433 diameter balls that should work well. That is the size I used in my .44 caliber Kentuckian rifle. Being a pistol, I do not recommend using a thick patch. In the...

Opinion on M1842 Cavalry .54 Cal Percussion Pistol by I.N. Johnson, Dated 1854

The only possible problem with shooting it, provided the barrel is in good condition is, something might break. The most likely thing to break is the mainspring and finding a replacement might be a bit of a chore. Other than that, these pistols were very robust.

Original Hawken Shop literature and price lists 1984

I'll leave this thread for anyone interested but I should mention, the files are in pdf format so they need software that can read them. When I tried to open one, my computer downloaded the pdf file to my desktop screen as files that I needed to open individually. In other words, they don't...

Bought a decoration, turns out it’s a real percussion rifle! Tips?

As some know, this subject was started in the Welcome to the Camp section of the forum. In it, Aleksrgill mentioned that the ramrod is short. As Grenadier mentioned, it must be long enough to reach the breech to find out if the gun is loaded. This can be done by laying the ramrod along side the...
