    Harmonica rifle

On his last trip back to Missouri from Santa Fe, Josiah Gregg armed himself with a Cochran turrent rifle. He eventually killed a bison with it. They were allegedly prone to multiple ignitions too.

Let's see your Belt or Rifleman's knife

Let's see your Belt or Rifleman's knife

I found this old blade in the barn when grandmaw and grandpaw sold the farm in 1964. I believe about 4 or 5 inches of the tip end were broken off and grandpaw repurposed it and used it for his hog and beef butchering knife. Had no handle. Other day I cut off about 2" of the handle end and stuck...

    Plain wood ramrod, no corkscew.

I made a tapered mandril out of a really long threaded bolt and used it to wrap heavier gauge ferrous wire around in the fashion of one of those tow worms that you just screw on the end of a bare wood rod. I believe these were quite the trade item back in the day. I would heat them up cherry...

    What Happened to CLOSER?

Nope. Only got the ol’ single barrel flints. Im an extremely laid back hunter. Sometimes I even take it seriously.

    What Happened to CLOSER?

While I’m turkey hunting, I prefer to load up with #4 buck. Because the chances are much better I’m gonna end up with a nice shoat instead! If a bird does happen out I just shoot ‘em in the face. (Honestly I’d rather have the shoat).

    Flintlock Plaines Rifles.

There is an interesting 1/2 stock flint rifle in Chris Hirsch’s book on the Texas gun trade. Scroll down to the Erichson, Houston Texas marked rifle on this link. http://www.texasguntrade.com/texassportingrifles.htm

    Smoothbores, Turkeys, Trout and Morels

Realwarrior, Ive seen turkeys so thick on that Kenedy county place that I have actually walked thru them, with birds on both sides of me not 15-20 feet away! Shooing them out of the way so I could walk down the road! LOL! Good luck on your hunt! I hope I can get to go down!!

    Smoothbores, Turkeys, Trout and Morels

May venture to deep south Texas (Kenedy co.) a try for a bearded buzzard. Lots of birds in the oak motts. Pigs sometimes wander thru too. As well as nilgai. But I still have some of the ol’ blue bull left in the freezer. But a turkey hunt will be fun.

    Fur Trade Era Knife Sheaths

Simple and utilitiarian. That ain’t cut to pieces by the blade being drawn and resheathed. Edit And I wouldn’t discount a piece of leather being repurposed from something else. Jmho

    Pirogis

Meat pies are still all the rage in Natchitoches Louisiana. Dunno how long they been eatin’ em there. Adai Caddo in the area seem to think they do date to the 1700’s. As do some of the townfolk. Natchitoches was the early terminous of river traffic due to the great log jam in the then Red River...
