Making a wedge for the 1860

I believe you, I have the same protractor. Thanks for the reply. Thanks Rich. I have a couple more I'm making, I'll throw it in with them. I had a sleeve from some O1 with the tempering info but it's gone. I mostly make knives and such, so I don't usually need the complete info. Looks like I'll...

Making a wedge for the 1860

    M. DeLand, What brand and which revolver did your factory wedge come from? I just this week measured one for my Uberti Navy and got 2° also. .035/inch=2°. I'm wondering if the different platforms use different angles? I made one like a Pocket police wedge with a clearance groove for the screw...

Thank you. How did we go from talking wedges to tuning? Not even the same conversation

    Wedge basics

That's a great way too, solid as a rock. The screw head works well because the bottom of the arbor hole is shaped like drill bit and the round head finds its own center. It's a good method for those with minimal tools. Or the impatient like me. 🥴 Mike's method isn't sophisticated at all. I've...

Barrel Lengths, Ballistics & Black Powder

I made this, but you can get one from Slixsprings, the people that make slixshot nipples. They're a handsaver

    Advice For New Guy Requested

Brass will never last as long as steel, but it will give you plenty of good service if you'll keep the wedge tight, grease the cylinder arbor (pin), and keep grease or oil on the back of the cylinder where it rides against the frame, on the frame ring. Sorry, no pics handy, I tried to explain it...

    Wedge basics

It's easier to make an arbor spacer out of a screw head as Mike has described, than to make a precision fit, heat treated, tool steel wedge. I've done both, I can knock out a spacer in 15 minutes with a cordless drill, feeler guages, and bench grinder and the gun is good to go for life...

    Conicals in .36 revolvers

I've shot the Lee in my uberti. It loaded beautifully, and shot better than ball, but that's relative. It's always been a cranky shooter, so im not sure how good they'll be after I reline the barrel this winter. There was a thread on here by BALLSHOOTER, he was running conicals. Check out the...

To much is made of short arbors

Great guns aren't they? Love mine, with the internals polished and greased it's as smooth as they get. I made a spacer, as Mike has detailed plenty of times here, and set the barrel up with .002 cylinder gap. Drive the wedge in tight, a couple extra taps with a screwdriver handle to make sure...

Did uberti ever make a small frame 1858 navy?

I've been told by someone I trust that's been around been muzzleloading for 50+ yrs, but can't verify. Apparently, with the early Remington copies the molds were taken directly from an original without adding material to account for casting shrink, and the guns came out 10ish% smaller. It would...

1851 Navy repro (Uberti) locks up when I lowerthe hammer onto a safety pin. How to fix?

Cool pictures, Mike, do you have a cutaway revolver?

That should have read, 36 AND 44. You know you want to.

Picked up an old N.O.S. Uberti 3rd Dragoon

I'll also say that Mike has been very free with his knowledge, most people with a business wouldn't do that. He's giving away money basically, and not asking for anything in return. I fail to see how that's some sort of advertisement for his business. I will again say THANK YOU, Mike, for all...

My first kit build, traditions Kentucky pistol!

Nice job on the build, looks like fun coming your way! If you have too much light reflection from the front sight, try turning it around, the undercut will show up sharp and clear 😉
