    Inherent accuracy of the 1860

I don't know about quality grades of replicas but I know that C&B revolvers will be as accurate as modern police or army type issue cartridge pistols, if # the shooter behind it is doing his/her job AND once # the inherent flaws of the 19th century design pistols and/or most replicas are...

    40gn and 12'' or 60gn and 9''

With due respect I feel barrel length and charge is only part of the equation. Proper adjusted chamber and rifling groove dia are important, too. Ran velocity tests through all kinds of .44 cal. C&B revolvers recently. Most were 1860 and 1863 pattern pistols but we had 2 3rd gen. included as...

Cute little Baby Dragoon – When was it manufactured?

If memory serves the Armi san Marco company of Italy started making these Colt Pocket replicas from ca. the mid 1960s, after the Walkers and Dragoon from the early 1960s. ASM is out of business for more than 10 years now so we cannot check back with them. If you provide the serial number Dr...

Centennial 1860 new model army help

Cwbyengraver & campfire: recommended ball size for these Centennial Armies or Centaures as we call them in Europe is .451 (and not .454 or .457). Their rifling groove dia is .446/.447. If you like to know more about these Belgian cousins of the 1860 Colt Army go to my website www.1960nma.org...

    44 Conicals

rodwha & Zonie: the loading press of the hinge type is a weak affair...and the opening in the barrel lug might be too small for a decent conical of say 250 gr.You might also want to consider a conical of hollow based design. If I were to go out hunting and want to use my Dragoon as a back-up...

    Colt 3rd dragoon w/leaf sights

I guess it's an Armi san Marco made 3rd Model Dragoon. They made them back then with the folding leaf rear sight on the barrel lug & could be had with matching shoulder stock. Long Johns Wolf

HELP-Information sought on "CENTENNIAL" marked Italian revolvers

We plan to add a new page to the Centaure/FROCS website www.1960nma.org on “CENTENNIAL” marked Italian manufactured percussion revolvers. These Italian replicas were sold by Centennial Arms Corporation in the USA from ca. 1961 to at least 1975 in addition to their Belgian Centaures. Marks...

    "Pointability" Army vs Navy

FWIW: it might have been mentioned somewhere else but a few early production/protoype stage original 1860s had Navy grips. I have bigger than average hands. My "1960 New Model Army" Centaure Marshals with 5,5" barrels are the best "pointers" in my arsenal. Long Johns Wolf

    1st Model Dragoon

Your Dragoon was probably made by the now defunct Italian replica maker Armi san Marco. Their name or ASM should be stamped somewhere under the barrel. In addition their 3 screws of the frame are flat and flush with the frame whereas the later made Uberti Dragoons that I have inspected have...

A .36 cal Centaure! What a find. Found a prototype of a .36 cal. Leech & Rigdon made by the Centaure folks 5 weeks ago. I would love to get more details and send a PM. Long Johns Wolf

Most authentic cap & ball revolvers?

Regarding the Colt 1860 group of pistols the Belgian made Centaures from the 1959-73 period are to be mentioned here. In terms of steel used & because chamber diameters are adjusted the same as rifling groove diameters this sets them apart from modern made C&B revolvers. Long Johns Wolf

Question about a Colt Patterson repo

Uberti was the only maker of a Paterson replica with loading lever. They discontinued production of this version and the one without LL a few years back. There might be some specimens left at the dealers, however. Good luck! Long Johns Wolf

    What revolver to buy

Go for the Centaure if you can Erzangel. But be aware that Centaures were not made on old Colt machinery. That is one of the many myths about them. This particular one was published in DWJ 1971 and it is simply not true! For the "truer" story see www.1960nma.org Long Johns Wolf

    What revolver to buy

Since competition shooting was mentioned I am throughing in my 2 €-Cents - and I am biased: have you considered getting a well maintained 8" barrel Centaure 1960 New Model Army, ideally one of the blued/case hardened variety or a stainless one? For competition I would shy away from the ones...

    Nipples are stuck!!!!

Frozen nipples are the proverbial PITA. After having ruined too many wrenches I started to listen to the experts: "It's the downward pressure on the wrench that does the job!". There is a pictured description of the procedure (on a Centaure 1960) on my website www.1960nma.org, browse to the...
