    load for a 32 pounder

Here is another link on Carronades. Check out the picture of a 68pdr. that fires a KEG of 500 balls! Carronades link I know, I know I'm getting carried away, but I'm half way the Lucky Jack Aubrey series by Patrick O'Brian. I listen to them on tape while I'm commuting to and from work.

    load for a 32 pounder

Here is a link to the page where I got the information. Carronades were a close range weapon fired almost "from pistol shot" to quote Lucky Jack. The heavy slow moving ball tended to shatter whatever part of the ship it hit rather than making a neat hole like a long gun. Plus they needed...

How many grains of FFg to use?

Pedersoli barrels tend to be a little tight. I have a Pedersoli Kentucky in .50 cal. Dixie reccomends a .490 ball with a .015 patch. I couldn't get that one down the barrel on a bet. I found that a .010 patch works much better. You should have seen me trying to get that ball going with a...

    Brass Barrelled Blunderbuss

As per CVA instructions I shoot it without a patch.

    load for a 32 pounder

This could be from a carronade. They were a short range weapon that fired a slow heavy ball that was devastating when it hit a wooden ship. Most of the damage was inflcted on crewmembers by flying wood splinters. They were also fearsome when loaded with grapeshot.

    Brass Barrelled Blunderbuss

Hey MM, my CVA blunderbuss shoots a .660 ball. What gauge do you think my BB is?

Hi all! To start off on a complex note...

By the by. I have a CVA Blunderbuss and it is flared at the end like a real blunderbus. I will try to post a picture later if I can get the @#$%^ camera to work.

    Stuck Vent

I have Dixie Tennessee Mountain Rifle and I am trying to remove the vent. I cannot get it to come out with a screwdriver in the slots and am afraid I'll bugger it up more than I have already. Any suggestions?

    Carson City Rendezvous

I'm going to be in the Reno area next month and am thinking about attending. Have any of you been to it. The AAA mag. says that there will be shooting competitions. Would it be worth my while to go and shoot or is it just a glorified carnival?

Blowing down barrel after each shot

About ten years ago a fellow at a rendezvous I was attending was about to blow down his barrel after firing his shot. Unfortunatly it was a damp or squib load and it chose that moment to finish it's journey down the barrel. The ball entered between his eye and eyelid and traveled around his...

    Ball molds?

I use a small wooden mallet from an old Tandy kit to open the sprue cutter and encourage my balls out of the mould. Just make sure that you tap on the hinge and not on the mould or else you may knock the mould out of alignment. By the way I don't consider my .490 Rapine mold a "toy".

    Running ball

For a source of lead check with roofing companies. Pure lead is used for flashing around fireplaces and such. they are often glad to get rid of it. For flux I use beeswax. This morning I ran approx. 250 .490 and 125 .440 in about 2 1/2 hours. This alone justifed the cost of Lee small...

    Rendesvous question

Our group has a "snake shoot" It's a cutout of a snake hanging horizontally with four golfballs hanging from it. teams of four must first shoot the "eggs" hanging from it and then shoot the "snake" in half. Last year I used my blunderbus to no avail. It was hard to aim but when it hit, Wow! :)

OK, let's put it to a vote.

I'd have to say the third gun. I just like the looks of it plus it has the sling swivel for those times when two hands are just not enough.
