    nipple thread size

When I first bought my .50 TC Hawken I ordered one of the 209 mag spark adaptors. I have never put it on the rifle. I tried shooting with the standard #11 caps and it works just fine that way. I expect the 209 has too much umph for the application. If you want to stick to iron sights the...

TC Hawken. 45 cal 25 yr anniv model

I would say $400 retail if in perfect condition.

    TC .45 Hawkin

I think you got a good deal. The .45 Hawkens are fairly hard to find.

    Rough barrel question

I would buy it. FYI. I found a bore scope on Amazon for $20. Has a light and the camera works and you can inspect a bore fairly well all the way down. Goes down a .40 caliber bore.

ball and patch for .40 caliber

got my .400 round balls today. I drilled one, screwed it onto a screw removal jag, and tried it in the bore with a .010 prelubed patch. I was able to start it by bumping the starter with my hand so I think it will load okay. The ball by itself seem to be the same or slightly smaller than the...

How do you shoot open sights w bifocals? Your experiences?

When I shoot iron sights I take the prescription glasses off and use plain shooting glasses. I focus on the sights and shoot at a very blurred target. When testing loads or working up a load I use a sight that is not mentionable here. Then I switch back to the iron sights when I am done.

ball and patch for .40 caliber

Well, I have tried both .390 and .395 balls and .015 cotton and .018 pillow ticking and 30 and 40 grains of FFF. Best I can do is still 6" or so at 50 yards. I have on order some .400 balls and some thinner and thicker patches. Any other suggestions? This is getting expensive to try to work...

    Were there flintlock Hawkens?

    what do I have

I do not know styles or history, I love the gun. It looks to me like it would fit well and be fun to shoot. I am uncomfortable with the amount of drop in well styled rifles and this one looks a little straighter. Nice piece of maple. Any thing that shoots groups as small as you are getting...

    Bean rifle barrel...

Have been looking and thinking hard...Thought I wanted a Issac Haines but then I saw the Bean rifle posted below and found the Sitting Fox website. I really prefer the iron furniture to brass anyway. So, how would it be to have a Bean rifle with a swamped barrel? Is that too much of a...

ball and patch for .40 caliber

Thanks for all the replies. I still need more help. I have tried .389 cast balls and Hornady .395 balls, both with a .018 wonder lube patch. Both shoot around 6" groups at 50 yards. I am shooting 777ff loads of 50 and 60 grains. The group moved down but stayed about the same size or worse...

    tc hawken twist rate

Grab one of the guns. I have a .50 Hawken with standard barrel, I think 1-48 twist, and the shallow rifling. I tried it with the TC bullets with the plastic sabot and a heavy charge (90 gr 777). It stacks them on top of each other at 50 yards. I think those .45 caliber bullets are pretty...

    36 Caliber deer rifle?

I live in Tennessee. I am not going to hunt deer with a .36 muzzleloader. But I am not going to get up in arms about the change in the law. I suspect there will be a very, very few people who try it, that they will be in the company of experts, and that there will be a lot more wounded and...

    ,45 or .50...

Thanks for taking time to give me some good ideas. I guess what I really want is a flintlock that looks good and is fun to shoot. So I will drop the percussion idea. Probably will go with a .45. I want a swamped barrel. I already have a percussion .50 TC that shoots almost bullet pretty...

    ,45 or .50...

Going to build a rifle. (probably a Jim Chambers kit but open to suggestions). Going to make it both flintlock and percussion since I like the flintlock look but think percussion will be better for hunting. Will only shoot round balls due to the barrel and the drum for the percussion. I do...

    Ramrod for .40 caliber?

What size ramrod for a .40 caliber barrel? Does 5/16 sound correct? 3/8 will not go into the pipes. I have a steel loading rod but need a ramrod to go under the barrel.

Hawken woodsman or lyman plains rifle?

Buy the left hand Lyman that is in the classifieds now. I have a couple of the TC Hawkens. I think the Lyman is a better rifle across the board.

ball and patch for .40 caliber

Thanks for all the replies. As a first run I am going to try the .389 with a .015 lubed patch. The .389 is the size ball Track of the Wolf sells. They also sell a .395. I will let you all know how it does but it may be a while before I get to shoot it.

ball and patch for .40 caliber

Need to order some. Green Mountain barrel. Should I try the .389 or the .395 balls first. What patch? I am thinking .389 with a .018 patch??
