    Harbor Freight

I don't know about the mini lathes, but I have never had any luck with Harbor Freight tools! The last thing I bought was a bead roller off e-Bay, had I known it was HF I would NOT have bought it. The set screws were so soft I rounded one off with the 3" hex wrench they sent with it...

    Poorboy or barn gun rifles

Track Of The Wolf has an interesting gun on their web site. Click on Flintlock Guns, then flintlock smoothbores,#AAA-661. It's called Antique Poor-boy .50 cal. smooth bore, restocked mid 1800. Looks like the type of gun we're discussing here. It looks later to me because the lock has a round...

    Poorboy or barn gun rifles

OK, From what I've been able to find out is that a "poorboy" Is an iron mounted rifle made in the Tennessee Valley in the late 18th century to the mid-19th century. The barn gun is generally earlier, about mid-18th century, usually a large cal. smoothbore. Some were restocked trade muskets...

    Age of Forum Users

I was born in Aug. 1954, I'll be 51 this year. I started muzzleloading about 1970, lasted until the late 80's. Then I thought I wanted to be a race car driver.(just local dirt tracks.) Just started back up. Seems the more things change, the more they stay the same! With the internet a lot more...

Guys, go to TOTW's website, under flintlock rifles is a great copy of the Neumann rifle! It has the square breech and all! Follows the print, except it has a butt plate....loojack

    Poorboy style Flintlock

Elnathan, I believe the rifle with the square to octagon barrel is available as a print you can get from The Log Cabin Shop. I bought the print some years ago, looking for a print of iron mounted Tennessee poorboys. It is from the collection of George C Neumann and is on page 140 of The History...

    Poorboy style Flintlock

Any way, no worries. Muzzleloading is largely about the "feel" and imagfination and emulating our forefathers and foremothers, some of whom could handle a rifle mighty well. Folks should build and use what they like and enjoy it. I can't for the life of me figure out why some folks want to be...

    Poorboy style Flintlock

This is all very interesting, I'm putting the parts together to build a "Barn Gun". I first heard about Schimmels in Chuck Dixon's The Art of Building the Pennsylvania Longrifle. I got the book in the late '70s, it's marked #75 inside the front cover. On pages 169 and 170 he has an article in...

VERY NICE STUFF! You should be proud of your work! I really like the 20 ga. smoothbore! Could you show some more pictures of it? I'm collecting the parts to build one some what like it, 20 ga. oct to round barrel plain maple stock with iron fowler trigger guard and no butt plate. Thanks for...

    jack garner

I haven't bought a gun from Tennessee Valley Mfg, but I ordered a precarved stock inlet for an octagon to round .62 cal barrel. I gave them a call and discussed what I wanted with them, and they were very helpful. The order came about 2 1/2 weeks later, as they said it would, and I'm very happy...

    Narragansett Armes

I don't know much about these people, it just seems to me that as long as people line up to throw their money at them and don't expect much in return, this is what you get. I can't imagine sending several hundred dollars for a down payment and not get a reciept! I got envolved in muzzleloading...
