Gun Works Muzzleloading Emporium Sporter #2

++ I have called a couple times and emailed a few times over the past two or three years and always prompt and courteous responses and very helpful.

Show N Tell your first MLer rifle

First I ever owned, a TC Renegade flintlock .50 that I bought in the summer of 1991 for $270. Killed a doe the first day I ever hunted with it. First I every shot was a TC Hawkin kit gun my uncle built, probably around 1980. I hit the target on the first try and I was hooked. I had to have...

    Offhand Accuracy

I used to do this 'induced sway' hunting groundhogs with a .22 when I was a kid. I'd stalk/crawl to about 25 or so yards and then pop up on my knee if necessary to see over the grass. I would gently sway left/right and squeeze the trigger as I crossed the ear. Worked out really well at...

Thompson Center Hawken Round Ball Barrel?

I may be wrong but I thought the PA Hunter target barrels were full octagon. They were produced for a very short time, whether Fox Ridge or not, I can't say. I have seen a rare full length barrel that is octagon every now and then but as noted, very rare. Something about the PA Hunter just...

    Grains by weight or volume???

I've gotten more lazy, suddenly. I always measured by weight when I have the time but then I just realized that using the same powder flask nozzle, whether 20, 25 or 30 grains, I was accurate because... I now use an empty #11 cap can. I lay the flask nozzle flat open and close the trigger and...

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

Some handy stuff I have acquired that should make hunting stuff more practical... Great containers for patches, balls, etc: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08WD1DGXG?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title Nice size vials for 20/25 grains 3F; will hold about 75 grains total...

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

I do the exact same thing with my .32 and .36. I only carry one loading block right now but maybe I should get another. I pack along another dozen balls and patches and reload the block when it's emptied. If I get six shots in a hunt, I'm either doing well or not so much :)

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

The past few mornings here in PA have been awesome but I'm holding out for a nice buck while being taunted by up to five squirrels at a time. I most certainly could have taken a half dozen shots each morning... how many I hit is debatable but the opportunities are there. For me it's still a...

    Schutzen 3F thoughts

My limited experience with Schutzen 2F and 3F is that it was more dirty and smelly than both Goex and Swiss. It does group well enough so no concerns using it if that's all I can get. I have a couple pounds of it and will use it but of the three, it is my last choice in my small bores. Swiss...

    TC QUESTION

Yes. But no. Renegade is a 1-inch barrel channel in your stock. No "Renegade" barrel will fit a standard Hawken stock (15/16-inch). All Renegades are 1-inch barrels, .50, .54, .56, .58 cals. Hawken stocks are 15/16-inch barrel channel in both .45 and .50 cals. Hawken stocks are 1-inch in a...

T/C #7194 tang mounted peep sight

Those images show adding two screws. On any side-lock, you use the lower tang screw in the bottom hole and drill and tap a hole below the upper/top tang screw. So your sight only requires you to drill ONE hole, not two.

T/C #7194 tang mounted peep sight

You will need this: Drill and tap set from Amazon I bought this to drill and tap a tang. No big deal, just take your time. You will need a screw if your sight did not come with one or try to find a three-hole tang on ebay. I bought a 'spare' tang that was parted out from a Cherokee, which I...

    T/C Hawken Cougar?

A "Cougar" had the butt stock medallion and I am pretty sure they all had "Cougar" stamped on the barrel. The kit guns had blued everything, except the barrel. The lock, trigger guard, wedge plates etc. were usually blued... not sure how the early kits were though, just speaking from...

Who Hunts Reg Seasons With Their Muzzleloader?

I think there is a deeper connection with a flintlock, much like hunting squirrels with a small-bore .32 cap lock. I think you find yourself listening more, being slower, paying more attention when you hunt with a 'lesser' weapon that can't lay a bullet into a quarter at 200 yards. You know...

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

Jim, just saw one on my cam the other day. I see a couple a season, usually around the ironstone outcrops. I'm in the Etown area, north-western Lancaster County.

Who Hunts Reg Seasons With Their Muzzleloader?

If I get an archery buck, I will often take my flintlock out during regular fire arms season for doe. Often depends on where I am going to hunt and the weather. I may end up with a rifle hunting over power line right of ways where I could shoot 200+ yards or in a tree stand where I'd shoot...

    Stuck

To run Scotch Brite, I use wire brushes typically for cartridge rifles from .17 up to .30, depending on the ML caliber. The pad will compress a bit as will the brush depending on the brush make-up...brass vs steel and design, spikes or coiled/screw-like. Sizes generally run: .17 for .32 .22...

    32 accuracy at 50yds,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

At 25 yards, my .32 TC Cherokee shoots a .310 ball with an .018 patch and 20 grains of 3F to sub-inch if I do everything right. Often times three of five shots will be touching. I am stuck with the .310 ball for now but would prefer going back to a .315 but need a .012 patch material, which...

    Built a Range Box..

Nicely done! I ended up repurposing a wheeled tool cart/box thing I got some 20 years ago. Works great for dragging my stuff to the shooting table. I can fit everything I could need provided I remember to load it :) LOTS of space for balls, powder, tools, target sheets, cleaning supplies...

    Track of the Wolf

Never had issues with Track shipping and seems to usually be around $11 no matter what I buy. I just looked through my TotW emails and I have various orders shipped via USPS, Fed-Ex and UPS. Postal Service and Fed-Ex are this year, 2024. They UPS order was in 2022 so maybe the stopped using...
