Perhaps the NMLRA might benefit receiving a link to this thread? :hmm: msj

    Do you name your flintlock?

I did name my two sons, Jeremiah and Christian, respectively. My guns, I just call guns. Naming them (the guns) wouldn't do much good anyway. They wouldn't come if I called them - no way, no how. :) msj

    Goex powder

The Inside Passage is very smooth. You may well not feel any motion at all. Ahhhhh...but out in the open Pacific it can get a bit ahhhhhhh...lively? You'll do just fine, I am sure. However, I must say, you appear to be an adventurous sort - seasick from the toilet bowl, yet willing to tackle...

    Goex powder

Just got back from an Alaska cruise yesterday (Saturday.) Was our second one up there in three years. I'd LOVE to live in or around Anchorage. Wife loves visiting Alaska, too, but ain't none too keen on living there. Should have dragged her there 25 years ago. Too late now I suppose...

sick of that jackass who writes for NMLRA

After 13 pages of comments regards Traditional vs. Inline, I guess it's safe to say such is a hot topic. There has been a lot of good commentary - and some not so good - on both sides. There has been a lot of off topic discussion, too. So much so, I don't know if this reply is on or off topic...

    Rich Pierce Testimonial

Ouch! I like Pierce's flints well enough. They spark when I drop the hammer - and at a buck a piece. Rough, tough and sparky (as he likes to say.) :) msj

Free cleaning patches are the best !

Ok, whereas I am still using sissors to cut up old tee-shirts and alike to make cleaning patches, what exactly is a rotary cutter? msj

    Amber gun flints

I had the very same experience! Sizzling, long lasting sparks! I was quite impressed. Not a pretty flint, perhaps. But what the hey, what I want is my prime to ignite - quickely and reliably. When I pull the trigger, I want to hear and feel BOOM! :) msj

    Amber gun flints

So far, for me, Rich Pierce's flints do seem the equal, if not the better, compared to English Flints. IMHO a very good value. msj

    Barrel length

Hey guys, Thanks for the advice regards powder granulations and loads for my .54 and for enlightening me concerning some misconceptions on my part regarding such. The advice I have received on this forum is remarkable, indeed. Great stuff that is proving to be spot on! I am now to the point of...

    Loading block for roundballs

I certainly don't know about PC, but I sure do like using mine. And, yes, it is faster loading with one than without. To be true, of course, one has to discount the time it took to "load the board" previous to the actual loading of the rifle. But it is done at a more leisurely time pior to...

What size flint for a TC Flint Lock

I will add to what has already been mentioned here. My T/C with "new" lock handles 3/4"x7/8" flints. T/C's flints are just about worthless. Tom Fuller's black English flints do the trick quite nicely for me. However, those flints seem to be getting difficult to come by. Two sources I have...

    Sights and Sight Picture

Hey Paul, I must of been writing my post when you posted yours. Thanks for that info. I will apply what you advise. (Well, I'll give it a good effort, anyway.) msj

    Sights and Sight Picture

BrownBear, I have the same set up as CWH and I am also having a wrestling match with the stock front bead. I understand your sight picture, placing the top of the bead at the desired POI and not covering it over. But do I understand correctly that your continue to use a bead-like front blade...

    Barrel length

Hey John, thank you for your load advice concerning my T/C 1:66 31" RB barrel. However, the barrel isn't a .50 cal., it's a .54. I am sorry if I somehow gave the impression I was dealing with a 50. As it has been pointed out by Roundball, I now understand T/C makes no distinction between it's...

    Barrel length

Everyone, thank you all for such in depth and interesting information regards the question of slow twist and barrel length. John, it's interesting that you should bring up the matter of powder grade - 2f vs. 3f. That is an issue I have been wrestling with as of late. I've read where a lot of...

    Barrel length

Is there a minimum length for a barrel with a slow twist, say 1:66 or slower? If so, what might it be? And why? :) msj

    Rifle to Smoothbore conversion

The gunsmith who is going to do the job thinks there might be enough steel to bore the T/C barrel (it's 1 inch) out to maybe .60 cal. He'll see how things look when he's actually doing the job. Nevertheless, if it turns out to be only .58 cal., which it will probably be, that will work for me...
