Is excess powder really blown out?

Gus and Fleener, Thanks for the info and I stand corrected. I guess a old goat like me can learn a new lesson. Please, everyone have a safe and great New Year.

Is excess powder really blown out?

Artificer, I think you may have typed it backwards. BP is a explosive and detonates where as smokeless powder does not detonate and burns. All BP containers are marked EXPLOSIVE and in the stores must be stored in a bunker where as smokeless power is placed on the shelf in the open.

    Molybdenum disulfide

This will probably get me tossed off this board, but I don't really care. In case you don't know this area of the Forum is titled "Flintlock Rifles". The question asked was if anyone had used Molybdenum sulfide on their Flintlock rifle. No where in the question was it asked if using it was...

Anyone hunt Coyotes with their muzzleloader?

I have never killed a coyote with a muzzleloading gun. I have hunted for them with one but no luck. Where I hunt it is a rule that if one comes in you must shoot it if you can. Period. Look it up, the number of deer a coyote will kill in a year. In one case a den was videotaped. The female...

    Pan priming ....

The use of lard/tallow is to seal the pan against water, be rain or otherwise. The frizzen is pushed forward/open as the flint passes down it's face opening the pan so as to receive the sparks onto the priming power. Almost all flash in the pans and hang fires are operator error on my part...

Picking out new rifle help needed

Many, many, many, way to many years ago I built a Hawkins rifle from a TC kit. Next I built a 12 ga. Side x side from a CVA kit, then a pistol from a unknown mfg. kit. In 2001 with a great deal of help from a very good friend I built a French trade gun, 62 cal., from TOW. Back then they stated...

    Powder

Try Jacks Powder Keg. You can order in mixed case lots of 25 and 50 lbs., if I remember correctly. It is a big out put but at around $14.00 per pound (which is a $11.00 per pound savings in my area) it pays for it's self real quick. As said above let your gun tell you which powder to use. I use 2F.

    Flashguard on a Charleville

I had the same problem with my trade gun. Got the screw from ToTW and fixed my problem. You can tighten the frizzen as you wish, then put the guard on. You can remove the guard anytime you wish without removing the frizzen. Works great. It is a screw with a nut and a post with another nut.

    Riflemans Knife

:rotf: :haha: :rotf: :haha: James, I CANNOT, I REPEAT, I CANNOT believe you took a photo of that piece of junk rifle. The knife came out good. The antiqueing covers a lot of sins. Dosen't it? Way to go guy. :blah: :shake: :nono:

    Gobs of gobblers

Your just jealous because my fusal will out shoot your 50 cal. T. C. rifle at 50 yards. I would throw it in the river and hang my head if I were you. :blah: I've killed two gobblers with it so tell me about the deer you didn't shoot with your rifle gun or was that shoot at and didn't hit I...

    Blue Ridge vs Frontier?

I have a Cabela's Blue Ridge in 45 cal. I lost a part (please don't ask how) I called the number listed in the paper work that came with the gun. I talked with the lady there and she told me, as for as the parts, the Blue Ridge is the same as the Pedersoli Frontier and use the same parts list...
