    2F or 3F for a .58

I use 3f in everything, including my 58 Chambers Lancaster and 24 ga NW Gun. I prime from the horn, and the 3f works great.

    .58 smooth rifle

I have a 58 Early Lancaster from Chambers and a 24ga NW Gun from NSW, kind of a fan of that bore size. Pistol kit from Chambers is next. They are a great compromise between 54 and 62, and throw a nice shot load, killed a sharptail and a rooster pheasant with mine this year.

    What's the attraction

It's just a much cooler way to enjoy the sport in my opinion. You set the flint, tighten it down just right. You knap it a little to get just the right spark, place the priming powder in the pan, tapping it to settle it in just so. Close the frizzen, cock and fire, creating the clack-whoosh-boom...

    NorthStar Canoe Gun

Wow, what a ride this thread was! So, just my $.02. I have a NSW 24ga in 30" barrel, and it is as accurate as I can shoot any smoothie, and I have won a few smoothie matches. I also know two people with real important sounding names that carry a lot of respect cause they earned it who shoot...

    Patchbox for Chambers early Lancaster

I have an early Lancaster kit in the works, and called Jim and asked the question. He said it most closely resembled a Dickert, like the ones in RCA 1.I will be doing a wood patchbox on mine per their reccomendations. It is my first build, and they said it would be much easier, and more...

Variations on flinters is making my head 'splode

You're preachin' to the choir brother! I am losing my mind trying to decide what to build first, but I may have decided. Early Lancaster for me.......I think......or maybe a Virgina..........those Late Lancasters are cool too............but there's something about that Hawken...

    Roundballs and Smoothbores???

I have a .62 Tulle, and I shoot it a lot in matches. I have hunted with it, but no kills yet. I love it, and place really well against guys with rifles on trail walks. Won a candle shoot with it, it's all in the practice and the load. I shoot a .600 ball with a .015 patch, 80 grs FFF. Shoots big...

    A Pilgrim's Journey

I couldn't agree more, I have them both and read them a lot. Some say he misses the mark on some things, but I don't care. He writes well and has lots of great info and stories.

    Roundball Accuracy and Distance

I shoot my .62 fusil for everything, it shoots well out to 75yds, under 6", which is fine for most trail walks and hunting. That took a lot of practice, and some work off the bench to get the load right. Pick up your smoothie and shoot nothing but it for a year, and you will be surprised how...

    Picking Only One Period Weapon.

.62/ 20ga 38" Tulle Fusil, does everything I want it to, and is correct from almost any period on this continent. Shoots about a 2" group at 25yds, which translates to plenty good accuracy for a smoothie. Even won a candle shoot last week, .62 makes a lot of wind...........

Bought a Virginia rifle, how did I do ?

I was watching it too, almost bit, but 60 cal is not in my armory, didn't want to mess with another caliber. I bought a custom built Leman in .50 this weekend instead, beautiful authentic gun. Good Luck with your new toy, she's a beauty.

    Impressive Follow thru

Hey, That's me! That was the first candle shoot I've ever won. It was quite a hangfire, but the old Ron Gueldner Fusil stayed on target for me, it's a great weapon.
