    recs for new sights on CVA Mountain Rifle

    I have only just had fitted a T/C click adjustable rear sight and front sight to match to my CVA Mountain rifle and is a big improvement to the primitive sights it came with. Had to drill and tap the barrel to fit the T/C sight. Rick

    #10 vs #11 nipple on my Traditions.

    I would first try replacing the nipple with the correct type as you dont know if someone has replaced it with the incorrect type, or slightly crush the no. 11 cap so it will be a tighter fit. I used to have to do this with a 1858 Rem Rick

    Cleaning Barrel

    Would cleaning your barrel after shooting using fine steel wool same type as used in the kitchen wrapped around a jag or a bronze brush when using hot soapy water be ok to use or not, or would it be to harsh for the barrel and end up removing the edges of the rifling.

    Arcticap, I have checkout the picture and that was not my problem, but you can see that would cause damage to nipples for sure, I fitted a new nipple shot around 30 shots from it and works like a dream now. Have just also have had a few Hot Shot nipples from the US sent over here will try them...

    Thanks for the good info as this has helped me alot now what to do, I think I may go to TC rear sight which I can pick up new on ebay for $20 USD which is alot cheaper than what they are here in Australia for around $60+ AU

    roundball, I've just checked out the Brownell's site and found the Williams sights they are called "WDOS" open sights and looks like the way to go about it rather than drill and tap the barrel. Will look at seeing if they would be interested in shipping to Australia. :thanks:

    Could anyone please help me as I would like to know if a TC rear sight click adjustable type will fit on a CVA mountain rifle which has a primative type sight which has a 3/8 dovetail sight base, as i would like to change over to a TC sight on my CVA. Rick

    Thanks guys, I think you are right it's a fault in during production that caused an imperfection or weakness. I will look into buying a few Hot Shot nipples for the US, will look around on ebay to find some, as here in Australia we dont a big selection when it come to muzzleloader accessories...

    I took my brand new Tradition's Hawken to the range today and only fired two shots shots from it found that when I went to fire the third shot I only had miss fires from it :(, on further inspection I found the nipple had a split all the way down. Anyone know the reason for this why it lasted...
