I have been curious as to why the #11 caps I bought for my Traditions seem to be far too loose. They just flop around on the nipple. I tried CCI and Remington both with the same results. I ordered a different #11 nipple and it came today. Caps fit snug. Nipple is visibly larger in diameter then my 'stock' nipple. Is there not such a thing as a #10 nipple? If so then that must be what came on my rifle. Since I don't know how old my Traditions is, I guess it's possible that they used to put such nipples on them at one time. Why would there be a need for a smaller nipple and cap than a #11?

I bought a Traditions Pioneer almost 10 years ago now, and it came with a standard sized #11 nipple; and I've never encountered one of their firearms with a #10 nipple. #10 caps are available, they're used on revolvers, but are usually harder to find. Have you contacted Traditions to see what their explanation is?

It appears to just be the nipples that Traditions now uses. i don't think they are #10 nipples, but just undersized.

Did you buy the rifle used? Traditions puts #10 nipples on thier revolvers. I have 2 of them. #11 caps fits WAY too lose on em whilst #10's are snug. If you bought the rifle used, someone may have bought/picked up the wrong sized nipple somewhere down the line and put it on there. It's possible. I bought a traditions crocket pistol that was used from a gun shop, and there was a #10 nipple in there as an "extra" nipple. I only use a musket nipple on it, but if I ever need an extra #10 or my navy colts, there's one.

If bought the rifle new, it's entirely possible someone messed up at the factory. Who knows?

I bought the rifle used, but I'm not sure that it was ever fired. I also have a feeling the rifle is at least 10 years old (the dealer I bought it from indicated that it had been passed around a few dealers for a few years) and it came with no manual or box. Heck I'd like to know what model it is! I think it maybe an older model of the 'Deerhunter' model they sell today. However there are some differences from the current Deerhunter model of today.

I would first try replacing the nipple with the correct type as you dont know if someone has replaced it with the incorrect type, or slightly crush the no. 11 cap so it will be a tighter fit. I used to have to do this with a 1858 Rem

Hi JimG
I had a similar post as I was also having a problem with loose fitting #11 caps on a unfired, inherited Investarms 54. One suggestion was to replace with a new #11 nipple, another was to try #10 caps. I had a supply of #10 pistol caps and they fit and worked just fine. I am sticking with the #10 caps just so I don't have to buy 2 different size caps. Has anyone else done this or see a problem with that?

I replaced my stock nipple with a #11 I ordered and caps now fit fine. Could of been a defective nipple for all I know?

On my Traditions Kentucky rifle I use #11 german type caps. They fit just right and it hasnt missfired yet.
