I took my brand new Tradition's Hawken to the range today and only fired two shots shots from it found that when I went to fire the third shot I only had miss fires from it :(, on further inspection I found the nipple had a split all the way down. Anyone know the reason for this why it lasted such a short time.

My thought it that is was a bad nipple in the first place. I would get s "Hot Shot" nipple and give her another try.

Boy, that is a tough one. I have never seen or heard of a cracked nipple. I guess I would just address it as a bad nipple.

Only cracked nipples i have seen have been on, well, let's not go there. :: I would replace it with a Hot Shot. they are a good nipple and give good ignition.

I'd guess there was a problem with an automated machine process or steel used during production that caused an imperfection or weakness which wasn't identified through any inspection.

I would contact Traditions directly with the serial number of the rifle so they can evaluate the extent of any potential production problems along with any other consumer reports. Maybe they'll be interested enough to actually request to see your nipple or resupply you with replacements. While I would guess that your nipple experience is isolated & rare, only they would know how often something like this is reported to them and what the possible causes could be. :hmm:

Thanks guys, I think you are right it's a fault in during production that caused an imperfection or weakness. I will look into buying a few Hot Shot nipples for the US, will look around on ebay to find some, as here in Australia we dont a big selection when it come to muzzleloader accessories and parts like what you guy's in the US can get hold of......

Cheers Rick
:thanks:

Could you have a problem like the one pictured here?:

Let us know how your problem gets resolved.

Arcticap, I have checkout the picture and that was not my problem, but you can see that would cause damage to nipples for sure, I fitted a new nipple shot around 30 shots from it and works like a dream now. Have just also have had a few Hot Shot nipples from the US sent over here will try them out later. I contacted Traditions over a week ago now letting them know what had happen and asked if they have had other reports with the same problem but have not heard nothing back as yet........
