Blowing down barrel after each shot

..... and if ever in doubt as to whether your rifle has fired, simply drop your "marked" ramrod down the bore. ("Marked" ramrods DO NOT LIE!!) :applause: :hatsoff:

Blowing down barrel after each shot

By the same token, we're sending a message to those youngsters that putting things down the bores of our rifles and packing things tight with a stick is perfectly "OK". (can anyone say "BARREL OBSTRUCTION 101" when done to a .357???? :winking: )

Blowing down barrel after each shot

If I'm not mistaken the logic, is an ember will "idle" for quite some time in the breech unless it's supplied a rush of oxygen to make it flare and burn up quickly. :winking: The moisture in one's breath does soften BP fouling, this has been common knowledge among BPCR shooters for many years...

    Hawkens ???

Mike,.... This post is not addressed to you in particular, but I find your opinion to be very close to my own. Here's a question I've always had in the back of my mind,...... why wouldn't the early fullstock flint rifles built by Sam also be considered as bonified "Hawken" rifles????? I guess...

What Organizations are Promoting Traditional Muzzleloading

Bob ("Runner"),.... the simple truth is, you were banned from the TMA website a few months ago, and you have a "vendetta" aginst some of the TMA Board of Directors. T-bone/rollingb

    NO MORE .50'S

Rebel, I agree!!:hatsoff: I would also suspect the bill includes modern shotgun slugs, and may set a precedence in states that have "shotgun only" deer seasons. T-bone
  7. T

    NO MORE .50'S

It looks as though the bill will also include the old .50-70, .50-90, and .50-140 blackpowder cartiridges as well. :( T-bone

    MuzzleBlasts Magazine

I look at the following high-lighted words as being the "key-words",.......... The National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association exists to promote, support, nurture, and preserve NMLRA's and our nation's rich historical heritage in the sport of muzzleloading through recreational, educational...

    MuzzleBlasts Magazine

Kind of go aginst the definition of "ML" in NMLRA, doesn't it? :hmm: :shocked2: T-bone

    MuzzleBlasts Magazine

On the contrary,.... I think one could very easily, if one doesn't live close to Friendship! :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: T-bone

    MuzzleBlasts Magazine

bpb, IMO all the NMLRA Membership benifits you listed are a bunch of "smoke and mirrors". There are no real benifits unless someone is willing to spend additional money. That smacks suspiciously of "marketing hype". :haha: With regards to the 500 acres of prime Indiana hunting land mentioned...

    Muzzleloadin' TV

2 Crows, unlike some fellas, I too think such a TV show would create lots of interest. Granted, I have no idea who would pay to sponsor, or fund, getting such a show on the "air", unless those in "the business" (Lyman, Pedersoli, Chambers, ToTW, Goex, and etc.) thought it would increase their...

    disturbing statistics?

How does someone like Bridges and O'Shea justify speacial seasons for inline rifles that have the same optics and ballistics as modern centerfire rifles? Why not just eliminate the special seasons altogether, there's no longer anything "special" about the original seasons. If the game...

    Traditional vs. modern ratio

Roundball, thanks for the information, although I am greatly saddened to hear it. I'll check out the young TMA, and if it's dedicated to preserveing traditional muzzleloading... I'll certainly do what I can to help them in turn. :) T-bone

    Traditional vs. modern ratio

I wonder why the NMLRA doesn't give more support to those of us that use traditional muzzleloaders? Couldn't the NMLRA write a "rule-book" as discribed above? Wasn't the express interest of those who organized the NMLRA (over 70 years ago) to preserve traditional muzzleloading?(what is this...

    Blowing down the barrel?

I've completely given up "driving" and I feel safer already. (Anybody want to buy a 2003 Dodge Cummins?) :hmm: :haha: T-bone
  17. T

    Blowing down the barrel?

I fully agree,.... and an "accident" can happen any place, at any time, no matter what we're doing (or, "not" doing), and isn't limited to those of us that blow down the bores of our empty muzzleloaders. (I'm sure history will bear this out "if" anyone cares to check) :hmm: :haha: :v I wish...

    Blowing down the barrel?

You make it sound as if you've actually seen the ground "littered with dead idiots" at shoots you attended prior to the NMLRA introduceing their ruleing in the late 80's. I'm sure such a "sight" was very traumatic to you. (I hope you get well soon) :rotf: :v :haha:
  19. T

    Blowing down the barrel?

I've never blown down the barrel of a muzzleloader that I "thought" was unloaded, but I do blow down the bore of a muzzleloader that I know has fired (thus rendering it "empty"). I don't have any teeth, and I don't shoot "10X's", so I guess this removes any chance of that type of accident...

    Blowing down the barrel?

Simply dropping the ramrod down the bore, removes any chance for a "mistake". (wouldn't you agree?) :winking: T-bone
