    Can Mississippi be saved?

Run some of 'em a little to the east. I hunt Pickens county, Alabama, just east of Columbus, MS, and there ain't squat to shoot so far this year . . . :shake: Thanksgiving weekend was silent as a tomb.

    Spiked Tomahawk

Here's you a modern day spiked hawk, not for throwing. I have a no-longer-made Rogers' Rangers spiked hawk from this company. It throws very well and is often used in the Best Ranger Competition.

    Pilgrim from Fort Benning

Welcome, Dave! Next time I get down to ol' Ft. Beginning I'll look you up. I sure hope that new museum has a place for Calculator's Rock...

    the last of the mohicans

Acting, costuming, and music are great. Scenery is outstanding. I like to watch it for the anachronisms, like the two buses in the background as they leave Ft William Henry, and the parachute flare during the seige . . . :haha:

    Book - Killer Angels?

Historical novel. Setting, tactics, and characters (most) are real and very accurate. Many conversations, etc., made up, but fit perfectly so are probably not far off the mark. Lee himself wondered about some of his decisions, during and after the war, so you're in good company when you...

    Sighting with both eyes

I used to shoot competitively in college, and I always kept both eyes open during matches whether we fired iron sights or scope. Still do even when hunting. Qualifying with a rifle in the Army got dicey. The instructor got puffy when I wouldn't close my left eye, so I told him he could "make...

    Fellow Texican

Welcome, high plains brother! I used to hail from Amarillo until they cut the only wire on the fence separating it from the north pole! How you gonna shoot in that wind out there? :winking:

    Beeswax

Saw on the news today that bees are dying off. :shocked2: Better get that wax quick!

    Hello from Longview, TX

Welcome aboard! P.S. - Back in the day I partied a few times at the Rio Palm Isle out on 1845. Longview is a great place, and so is this.

    What would you do if?

If I may, as a newbie... I'm puttering along with a Chambers York in .45 cal. I fiddle with it some on weekends and it's all I can do not to take an extended vacation and jump in whole hog on this thing. Every minute I spend working on it is pure joy, but I'm deliberately taking my time...

    History of Chewing gum

When I was a kid and lived in Morocco (my dad was USAF) I learned about chewing resin from the wild thistles. Tasted good and lasted a long time, too, but it was prickly trying to harvest it. I'd guess they've been doing this for a few millenia.

    A mornin' with the boys

Good job, dad. I'd trade a deer any day for the look on those faces. They have to be hooked now!

Flintlock Doe and a little more

Poacher on the farm I lease...

A college buddy in Tx had a problem with poachers spotlighting deer on his dad's land. He went out one night and put a round thru their engine block at 3 a.m. and went back home(@ 3 miles) and had the law waiting on 'em when they showed up wanting to use the phone. :rotf:

    MOST powerful BP weapon?

I think the Navy tried to blame that on sabotage by a crewman loading the big gun. Preemie cookoff maybe. Biggest I ever read about was a 36" gun :shocked2: used in the seige of Constantinople by the Ottomans. Used BP, but definately not shoulder-fired.

    Another one from Bama

I've been gleaning mucho good info from this site for quite some time now. Currently building my first ML, a Chambers Yorktown in .45 cal. Taking it verrrry slow and easy. Hopefully I'll initiate it next fall. So far the missus is patient with all this, but the 17 yr old wants to make smoke...

    Who knows about Barking?

A friend of mine and I used to bark squirrels with .22s back in the day. You have to hit the limb beneath the squirrel's head just right in order to splatter wood fragments up into its neck and head. It usually stuns the critter, and when done right saves meat. The fall is often fatal, but...
