Thanks brokennock. I chose the .45 over the .62 this year. Also used a lighter than usual load. 50 grains of 3f Swiss was part of the recipe. Worked great!

it just goes to show you do not need a hotrod load or big caliber to kill a deer. it is all about shot placement. nice buck and great story,,,,,,,,,,,

Craig, the rifle I used was built by a talented gentleman by the name of Bill Eyre, who lives in the Wabash valley area near Terre Haute, Indiana.

It's best described as a Southern Mountaln rifle. It wears a 42", Green Mountain barrel.

My load was 50 grains of Swiss 3f under a .440 roundball, patched with cotton duck material lightly lubed with vegetable shortening.

The rifle shoots a variety of charges accurately, including the one described.
