Iām having second thoughts on this. I laid in bed a couple of hours last night before I finally fell to sleep trying to come up with a solution for this. Came up empty handed.
The issue with a hanging a squirrel feeder would be balancing. Anywhere a squirrel would set while trying to eat would offset the balance bad and the feeder would lean to that side.
So, considering these would be temporary feeders, Iām now considering making a couple out of a chunk of PVC pipe with caps on both ends. They would be attached to the tree vertically with a small hole near the bottom for feed to fall out. They would be gravity feeders like I have for deer. The top cap would not be glued on, only pushed down firm for easy removal to add feed. There would need to be some kind of small basin at the bottom to catch the food so it doesnāt pour out onto the ground. Also, adding a chunk of 2X2 horizontally for the squirrels to sit on would be needed.
These would be fairly small so even if a coon gets to them, thereās not much they could do other than destroy it. If it that happens, then so be it. I wouldnāt be out much. There just happens to be plenty of old 4ā PVP pipe on the ground behind my garage. Thereās even caps. Also have plenty of 2X2ās.
