Indeed. I saw grass in between the rag and feed bag. I fully understand that’s it’s for nesting. The thing that threw me is the squirrel blocked off the lower hole.@ETipp it's interesting what they will do. Maybe nesting material
I think I observed something new about my adversaries.
I haven't put the trap out for #7 yet because of incoming snow but the day after removal of #6 I observed a squirrel passing by the spot where I set the trap. It was very pensive and cautious. Circling the spot and jumping backwards then creeping up again. I think they can smell or sense the distress and fear of the previous catch.
After each catch it seems to take several days for the next one to get up the courage to enter the trap. I'm going to start hosing the trap down and setting it in a fresh spot.
Who knew that protecting the fruit trees would turn into a science experiment
I know one old boy in kentucky who's count.Only 52 days remaining until spring squirrel season here in Kentucky. But who’s counting?
Now, now. You don’t know that for sure.I know one old boy in kentucky who's count.
How's the rehab coming along?Only 52 days remaining until spring squirrel season here in Kentucky. But who’s counting?
Good luck and safe travels Jim. With any luck, you'll find some Morels too.I’m gearing up for hunting turkeys in several states but my mind is still on squirrel hunting. We’ll have to rely on you Ed to help us through this time!!
Thank you. As much time as I spend in the spring turkey woods, I rarely see morels or deer sheds. I’m just not concentrating on that. Just turkeysGood luck and safe travels Jim. With any luck, you'll find some Morels too.
Steady but very slow. How's the rehab coming along?
Last year it was slower than wet gun powder during the first couple of weeks of the spring squirrel season. This year we are about 3 weeks ahead. So, unless the weather changes, we just might have a productive early part of the 6 week season. The trees are really coming on here. Squirrel activity has been good in the woods the last couple of weeks. I’m seeing them up in the tops of trees eating buds and small leaves.I’m gearing up for hunting turkeys in several states but my mind is still on squirrel hunting. ...I rarely see ... deer sheds...
I’m sure they’re there. I just don’t see them. I have feathers consuming all my attention. I have found several in other states while hunting. I’ve only found one in PA in 65 years. I have taxidermy customers that walk countless miles hunting them. They find them.Isn't it amazing, with all the antlered deer running around, that you so see so few sheds. I was always told squirrels and other varmints gnaw them away pretty quickly for the calcium & minerals, etc.
Fred, if Florida changes the squirrel season to open all year, as you indicated, my guess is you will do just fine.I definitely need help on that.
Thanks Brother Ed.
Sounds like a revenge mission is in order for Henry. Take no prisoners and give no quarter FredI sure hope so, last couple years haven't been so productive.
The squirrels are going into crazy mode down here. Chasing each other. Driving poor Ole Henry nuts according to the wife....
Boys I might be wrong, but the plan may have implementedI hope they don't get together and hatch a revenge plan
Your correct on that. Now, now. You don’t know that for sure.
